Arrow Who's Depressed Here?

Guess what today (1-21-08) is? For a whole host of reasons today is the most likely day of the entire year to be depressed. The Digerati Life has dug up this guy, Dr. Cliff Arnall, a researcher from Cardiff University who has developed a formula to determine the day most depressing to the most people due to a conglomeration of situations and events from bad weather to illness to Christmas bills coming due to I'm still too fat from all that holiday stuffing I engaged in starting with Thanksgiving. It's an interesting read, provides some inexpensive solutions for those who find the diagnosis is right on target. As for me, I'm not depressed.
  • I did my weight-training and ran 4 miles this morning. Still have those endorphins racing through my blood-stream.
  • I'm topped up on sleep. In fact I had a 15 minute power nap about 30 minutes ago.
  • I baked some cupcakes for a neighbor's birthday and will be trekking them over tomorrow for coffee and some friendly conversation.
  • The sun is shining and the temperature is above 40° for the first time in days.
  • I made goals and plans instead of rigid resolutions for the new year to lead me in the direction I want to take in my professional and personal life. I actually see a bit of progress on those goals.

I am not dwelling on the negatives or worrying over things I cannot control--the stock market, the economy, or the weather. My life is a tree with many branches. Storms may take out some of the branches. Some need to be pruned so that resources flow to the outermost tips of my life and make me stronger to withstand the storms to come.

Funny I was just reading about how today is 'blue monday' because it'll give everyone the blues hehe.

I have never really been that into New Years resolutions anyways. My 'resolutions' were made on a random day in September hehe.

I wonder what tomorrow will be like for the Dow (it's closed today cause of holiday?! (i don't live in the states). Though I did hear futures can still be traded today...) Gonna be interesting. I've got my Microwave popcorn ready

I don't know about depression. I just did the same thing that I do every Monday. I processed and posted photos to Flickr that I took over the weekend. It's a nice way to relive part of the weekend.

Today was a pretty depressing day. The morning started off with a bunch of terrible financial news from around the world. I don't have a ton of money invested in the stock market, but a lot of people around my office work in the financial industry. I could tell they were pretty worried, and their bad mood kind of affected the entire office.

Also Heath Ledger died.

I'm not a huge fan or anything, but it is always a bit jarring to see someone so young pass away.

I didn't notice being sad, but I did notice, upon moving to Mpls from Tennessee, my first spring here that the first day the sun came out *really out* I felt like a flower in bloom or something. It is hard to describe, but winters up here can be so drab and sunless for months, and then when I saw the sun I just felt like singing. And I'm not the singing-kind. I definitely see how S.A.D. is a real thing.

Being sad or down for the day isn't really depression. Obviously its pretty normal to be down for a couple of days. Depression is when the person is down for a significant amount of time, ie months. There definately are factors which alter someone's mood (weather, time, etc) but thats not really depression.

I didn't notice the 21st being any worse than other days...I've never had an issu with Mondays either, so thats probably part of it. Sunday we didn't do anything but lay around the house being lazy and we did really good on shopping this weekend (3 bags of dog treats for .79 each and my mom gave us two more).

Heh, that's funny. I thought the winter solstice was the most depressing day of the year since it had the longest period of night. Oh well. I guess, yeah, I felt kinda sad since today is Monday, but once I got busy at work I felt fine.

I wasn't sad on Blue Monday. I was in Chicago visiting my fiance, and it was a free day off from work.

I didn't start to get sad until late last week, when I did my taxes and found out I owed. Again.

All I could see was my dreams of moving to Chicago dissolving. My wedding getting even MORE downsized. And the honeymoon postponed indefinitely.

So....

I'm still kind of bummed, but I figure we'll work around it somehow. I still plan to move, just don't know when, for sure.
