Default Your favorite quotes from books

Quote:
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." -- Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
OK, it is the day after Valentine's Day and I'm still high on chocolate. But that line floors me everytime. It is a playful and ironic take on a rather sad social expectation of "romance".

What are some of your favorite quotes from books and why do you love them?

That's one of my favorites too. I recently read "Sense and Sensibility" and there were so many funny ones in it too. One was:

Quote:
The two mothers, though each really convinced that her own son was the tallest, politely decided in favour of the other.

There was another one but I can't remember what or where it was. In any case, the entire book was great; there were many parts that made me laugh out loud.

2 off the top of my head that I like. First one I believe is a saying from Texas. But I read both these from books so yay .

Why do I like them? Well... isn't it obvious? :P. I guess thinking about them help bring me back to a good mindset. Helps give me perspective when I start to lose my patience, or get a little full of myself.

I love most of Terry Pratchett's writing, but my favorite quote is this one: "Sometimes you have to stand and fight, if only because there is nowhere left to run."

Alas, I can't recall what book it was from...

Talking "Favorite Quote From Books!"

I don't know if the Bible counts as a book, but it is where one of my most favorite quotes is from. It is ~ "Be still and know that I am God." Cindi

"Thomas Jefferson survives."

John Adams vowed to stay alive until the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. At the age of 92 on his death bed he uttered the words "Thomas Jefferson still survives". Adams died on July 4, 1826.

Adams died at his home in Quincy MA and Jefferson died at Monticello earlier that day. Both on the 50th anniversary of the signing.

From "John Adams" by David McCullough.

It would have to from The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. It goes:
"In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can't build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery and death."
Truly amazing for someone that young to come up with something that deep
