Reputation: | When my 4-yr.-old twins were born, I had to break down and buy a mini-van. I would like to shampoo some spills on the carpet and wash the dirt on the rims. I would not like to pay someone for a service I can do myself. Any effecient, inexpensive, and/or green suggestions would be highly appreciated.

| Senior Member | I know my grocery store has the steam cleaner you can rent. We've done it for my parent's apartment when they moved last summer, but my husband used to work in the carpet cleaning business a couple years ago so he did it all and then some. The spray on upholstery foams work well if you have a vacuum that can get it back out (its then a powder which can clog some weaker vacuums and overheat them). For the rims if it doesn't come off with a scrubby sponge try some toothpaste or low abrasive scouring powder (soft scrub, etc). Its probably cheaper than what they sell just for tires and you can use it in the house after. |

Reputation: | I have Bissell's "little green" for spot cleaning. It would be perfect for cleaning the carpet in the car - in fact dh and I were just talking about doing it ourselves with that instead of paying someone to do it. I can vouche that it's an awesome cleaner, and its taken out some pretty set-in carpet stains without much effort. Love it. |
