Default Dig Photo Storage - Picasa question

I've organized a lot of pictures (all of 2007) on my pc. I'd like to upload them into Google Photo/ Picasa. Is there a way to do that without uploading single pics but entire folders as I have them seperated now?

Maybe this was a project that was too big.

How do you organize your digital photos? Back them up?

I have them downloading into my pictures folder and when I edit them and choose which ones I want to keep I rename them for saving and store them in the original dated image folder in a new folder which I call TIF. Then I back them up onto CD or DVD depending on how many I need to backup.

I just looked at the picasa site and all it has info on is the picasa program. But it does look great and offers the ability to created backup CDs and DVDs from within the program. Depending on how many pictures you have you might just want to burn a CD or DVD.

Most of the online photo services I've seen on the net don't let you upload the full resolution of the photo unless you pay for a premium account, like Flickr, which I think is $25 a year. You get lots of options with flickr, but if you're not into doing lots of stuff online with your photos it's probably cheaper in the long run to buy another hard drive to backup your photos.

Anyway if you want to look at all the features the picasa program offers here's the link:

I've got Picasa on my husband's computer, which is where all the digi pix get stored, and an online Picasa account where I upload some of the pix I want to share with friends. The heart of Picasa is a desktop client that you install, and it searches your hard drive for all your image files and makes it super easy to page through and find everything (I even found a collection of pix on my husband's computer from his, ah-hem, bachelor days). You can then select individual or batches of pictures to upload to a Picasa album (which offers 1 GB storage), or you can do batch backups onto a CD or DVD or removable storage drive, do batch uploads to photo printing services, etc. It's a great tool, and I highly recommend it.

Thats everything I was trying to find. Then when I read your post I went to the picasa icon on my desktop and realized I had to do more set up! Duh. No wonder I couldn't find all the features. I was just seeing where online you hit browse and it would do 1,2,3 or however many pics singly in upload mode.

I do have all my pics on disk. I burned the disks this weekend since they were so nicely sorted I burned them sorted - ds sports, local/town pics, family, etc. and labelled. I just wanted to have them in some sort of online system 1) for sharing and 2) for like a second backup and 3) so if I am out and about and decide I want to print some pics I can grab them from nearly anywhere (happens when I travel to see family... "Oh! I should have brought you *this* pic I have of ds doing..."). I'm not big about labeling pics - to me it doesn't justify the time investment - so I don't have to worry about all that transferring but I do need to be able to browse a large assortment of pics which is why I want them well organized (which is much faster than labelling them all).

The way I've done it in the past is to Star the photos that I want to upload and then use the uploader to put all the starred photos in a new album online.

You might toy around with that by selecting all the photos in a folder of picasa and saying add to starred. After you've done a few you can be sure that'll work.
