Reputation: | Hi, I'm not sure this is the correct area for this question, but I'll try here first. I am trying to sell my engagement ring and my ex husband's wedding ring from my first marraige. I have tried everything I can think of. I've listed on various boards including Craigslist and local forums. The only responses I get are from people who cannot write a correct sentence telling me to give them all my info and they will send me a shipping container...umm NO! I finally went to a pawn shop just to see what they would offer (I've never been in one before so I had no idea)..he offered $90 for both! It's a 1/2 carat solitaire and a men's 14K gold nugget band. I really want to get rid of these and I just have no idea how to do it.. Any ideas? TIA -Kim |

Reputation: | Try another pawn shop in the closest big city from where you are. If you're in a small town, they might not pay as much but if you go to a more populated area, you might get more. Have you tried craigs list or eBay? |

| Senior Member | Pawn shops are always going to offer you next to nothing. They aren't buying your merchandise so much as keeping them as collateral for cash you need. The idea is to go back and buy the items back. So trying to sell them off there isn't going to get you the value you want. Try heading to a jewelry store to get an honest valuation. Then youknow how much they are honestly worth and aren't thinking they are worth more than they are. Ebay is going to take a chunk out of your profits. Craigslist may take some time, but keep trying. Remember the idea is to sell and buy locally so people asking for shipping containers are scammers hoping to get lucky. Remember you can relist it in 48 hours. Take good pictures and scan any receipts you might have to show value if you don't get it valued at the store. Honestly jewelry doesn;t sell quickly, unless you are willing to take a huge profit loss. I still have my mother-in-laws wedding set she gave us to sell to buy ours. I got married almost 3 years ago and its a beautiful set, but people want a bargain if its not in a jewelry store. I mean is only worth $700 for the set of three rings (promise, engagement, wedding) but the best offer I had was $300 after a year of trying.

| Senior Member | Also if you are looking at buying new jewelry (aniversary, etc) most jewelry stores will allow you to trade in your ring so long as you also spend at least part or equal value for the new purchase. Not sure if thats something you might be looking to do, but they might have some ideas. I know the Kay's near us is always willing to help with ideas.

Reputation: | Thanks, I've tried all the jewelry stores, including the one where we bought it. They will only trade if I buy something more expensive, which I'm not going to do. I recently got a beautiful sapphire engagement ring, and I don't want any more diamonds. I'm going to try the big gold exchange here, I've heard they are honest..so we will see. Thanks again for the ideas! |

Reputation: | Hi, if you're looking to sell your jewelry you should check out http://www.cashmygold.info . Basically they send you a free insured g pak in which you can pop your jewelry in and then send it. They will then tell you how much it is worth and you decide whether you want to sell it or not. |
