Reputation: | My family has been traveling quite a bit this month. We've been visiting several relatives all across the country. One thing I missed is the regular workout routine I had at my local gym. I just started working out 4 months ago. I've been pretty good at keeping up with my schedule. My routine is pretty basic--arm curls, push ups, sit ups, bench press, stair machine. I don't expect to duplicate this entire workout while on the road. But I a itching to do something physical after eating all this turkey and pie! What can I do oh Wise Bread gurus to keep fit on the road? |

Reputation: | It is actually good to change up your routine a bit. If you keep up the same routine all the time you will get bored and give up much sooner. Why not ask your relatives what sports they enjoy and try to learn new things? |

Reputation: | During this vacation, I did this short workout a few time during the week, since I had no access to a gym or any equipment. I did the exercises as a circuit (with little rest between each exercise) and completed 2 or 3 circuits. 15 vertical crunches crunches 15 pushups 15 bicycle crunch 15 pause pushups (pause for a second in the "down" position) 1 minute pillar bridge More information on how to do the ab exercises and their benefits can be found here: Best Life Magazine: Health & Fitness: Find Your Middle Ground |

Reputation: | You can definitely do a full workout without any gym equipment. Cardio portion should be easy - you can pretty much walk or jog anywhere. As for strength training, you can find many exercises for every muscle group; push-ups and crunches come to mind. You On a Diet had a special section on exercises that didn't require equipment or even weights. A number of yoga poses can also be used as substitutes for strength training. |

Reputation: | Since we're giving recommendations here I have one. Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle It's written by a body builder, but it applies to everybody. This is the book that taught how to lose weight and be healthy. No fad diets, just eating right and exercising. It blows my mind that I never learned this stuff in school. Physical Education was all about dodgeball. I'll check out the Never Gymless book, sounds great. |

Reputation: | Absolutely -- you can see so much more on foot than in a car or even a bike. I treat my travels as great fitness opportunities, which become really super memories and keep me motivated. I've had great experiences running, from trotting on the road around my dad's ranch in Texas to jogging around the Kremlin. Not sure where I got the stranger looks, though .... |
