This book is fantastic! I highly recommend to anyone who feels that the traditional system of working/waiting 30 years before they start to enjoy their lives is highly flawed.
Here is a link to a podcast of the author explaining the premise of the book.

Anyone searching for a new (or initial) career path should read "What Color is your Parachute" by Richard Bolles (the author's website is here: JobHuntersBible.com: ). This book has been the gold standard for many, many years, and each year comes out with an updated edition to match the times (although the older editions can still be helpful). Worth checking out at your local library or sites like half.com or even amazon. Knowing what suits you and what makes you happy can make the search even easier.

My Dream is to become a Doctor. I’m currently giving 2 year MBBS exam. Next step for me would be completing MBBS. Then Post graduation. Later specialization in a particular medical branch. Start working in a government hospital until I earn enough to set up my private clinic and then my own hospital. Its a long way to go. But with the end in mind. I think I’ll make it through.

Also I want to have a balanced life. I’d also like to make some bucks by setting up a web based business while I’m still studying.

I would love to become a horseback riding instructor. I decided to go to college for something more "secure" and ended up realizing a chemistry teacher wasn't what I wanted to be. I'd like to finish the degree with a forensic twist to it, but what I have always wanted to do (and did dang well) was ride horses and teach others. Even after not riding for 9yrs I still have the body training to ride like an intermediate rider. But its expensive and I need another job to support the dream.

I want to be a nurse, but I feel that raising my 3 little ones is more important than my goals right now. I have lots of years when my babies will be taking care of themselves, but only a few years that I get to hold them and teach them.

"Start a new career RIGHT NOW"??? If I could skip all the med school/internship/residency/specialty years, I would definitely be a surgeon. I made the biggest mistake of my life deciding to pursue the whole PhD researcher field instead of medical school. Though right now, I'm content being somewhere in between the two fields since I do medical editing/writing instead of working in a lab.

Got an answer?

Ok, good.

Here's the important question: If that's the career you truly want, why aren't you pursuing it?

There are a lot of barriers. Maybe you've become pretty successful at your current career and don't want to stat over. Perhaps you have a family and can't afford to start from the bottom again.

However, I'm assuming anyone reading a forum like this must be a real go-getter, someone who would probably suceed no matter what. What's holding you back?
In terms of a CAREER that I truly want? I would love to be a Computer Forensics/High Technology Crime Investigator. I am in graduate school for something somewhat unrelated but I plan top pursue the forensic investigator grad program next year.

My passion however is writing a personal finance blog for women. Always has been, but I thought I needed to be an expert like Suze Orman to write one. Boy was I wrong!

Im not particularly happy in my present position but today I decided that I would use it for what it really needs to mean to me. A way to pay down debt and gain experience on my resume.

I would be an investment manager or prop trader if I could start all over again. I'd probably have to go to business school instead of engineering school so it's an enormous commitment. However, I've been learning part time and using that to manage my own capital profitably.
