Reputation: | When possible, I try to walk to work these days. This gives me half an hour at the start and end of my day to just think about stuff and relax. I let my mind wander (much like sitting meditation) and try not to hold onto thoughts, but just let my mind speak what has been bouncing around in it, then quiet down. Anyways, if you have a tough time with meditation, try walking and just observing things as you walk. You can look how bark looks on a tree, or what shadows look like when the sun is setting and these observations can be your walking meditation. |

| Member | When I listen to music to relax, it varies. Some of my favorites: Enya, The Yellowjackets, Dave Koz, Ronnie Jordan, Steve Vai, Iron Maiden, Racer X, Eric Johnson, and Joe Satriani. Ok, some of that isn't patently relaxing music...but it works for me.

Reputation: | I listen to medidations cd's all the time. I have no trouble sleeping so I use them to create calm environments when I work. My focus increases and my breathing slows when I listen to them. If I try to work without them, I am not as focused as when the music plays in the background.

Reputation: | I think it also depends on the task. If your trying to get to sleep vs. trying to clear your mind and focus on a task. If I am trying to wind down and sleep something like Pizizz or a meditation/music CD works better. If I am trying to refocus my attention and destress so I can work on a task something like the Ramones or Frank Sinatra works for me. Classical music sometimes works too. |

| Senior Member | Yay for Frankie! I do enjoy listening to old blue eyes or his pals once in a while, perhaps with a glass of wine. Jesse Cook, who is a nuevo flamenco guitarist, also has some really great music for chilling out. Most of it is instrumental. I think one of his songs was on those "Pure Moods" cd's with the likes of Enya and such. Jack Johnson is one of my favorites all-around. I can't help but mellow out when I listen to his stuff. During the hot summers it's really nice to just listen to him and imagine being on the beach with a gentle breeze blowing across my skin (and by gentle breeze I mean a box fan in the window). |

Reputation: | Maybe this is sort of related. Has anyone specifically furnished or decorated an area of your house to be more condusive to meditation? |
