Reputation: | Does anyone know of any web sites which stream (free and legal) PBS shows? There's a couple of shows coming up (Carrier - the mini-series that follows the USS Nimitz on a recent cruise to the Persian Gulf, and an episode of Frontline (or it might be NOVA) that has the Car Talk guys buying a car) that look like interesting. I've really gotten out of the habit of watching television on television and, while I still remember how to program my VCR, I've gotten to the point where I prefer to watch shows on the web. Thanks to Hulu and the various network web sites, I can find just about everything (even the new episodes of Battlestar) on the web, but I haven't seen anywhere streaming PBS shows. Anyone know of any? |

Reputation: | Frontline has most of their shows online at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/view/ I have watched a few of them there after other people suggested a recent show to me. I also found this off of the home page http://www.pbs.org/video/?campaign=p..._videoagg_link I didn't see the show on the Nimitz specifically, try searching shows A-Z and find the show page. If they are putting out the videos yet my guess is there would be a link there. I think I also saw some of the PBS frontline episodes on Youtube in the past. You could try checking there. I am glad you brought this up, until I looked I didn't realize how many shows they are putting online beyond frontline. |

| Senior Member | There are also some free PBS programs available via iTunes U. If you go to http://www.apple.com/startpage/ and scroll down to the post for April 11th, the "Enjoy PBS programming on iTunes U" link will open it up in itunes for you. Or, just open iTunes yourself then go to the iTunes Store, then choose iTunes U on the left under the "iTunes STORE" menu. There you should see a PBS logo in the middle. |

Reputation: | Excellent! Thanks so much for the links and iTunes suggestion. There's a couple of Frontline programs that I missed that I see are online. I'm glad I'll be able to watch them now. Thanks again. |

Reputation: | The last time I looked they had put a wide variety of their programming on the website. This link has a list of all the shows that are online. http://www.pbs.org/video/ Carrier doesn't seem to be on there and I was almost sure I saw it online in the list earlier. Something else to keep an eye out for is that PBS over the air is expanding. Most state PBS stations will be broadcasting multiple channels after the final DTV switch is done. There will be the main PBS channel programming, one called "Create" that will be more of the home & garden content and another called "World" that will be more of the documentaries content. Right now with cable we get one channel from each nearby state. With an antenna we should be able to get three states AND these other two channels plus MN PBS has a forth channel of content programmed by their state PBS system. As soon at it gets warm enough out we are going to try making one of these for OTA broadcasts. http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.../03/14/2021223 |
