Reputation: | I have been looking at various phone options. I need to have a separate phone just for work but I am not sure what is going to be the best match. I have looked and getting a second cell phone or one of the various VOIP type options. It doesn't have to be portable, the phone will only be answered at my desk in my office at the house. It should not have time limits since I frequently get stuck on marathon conference calls. It also has to have unlimited long distance. It needs to have an option to use a standard phone so I can use speaker phone and a regular handset. It needs to be able to have a regular phone number that I can keep long term. I looked at Skype. The main concern I had was that you have to pay them $30 to $60 a year to have a phone number and it doesn't look like you own it. I thought about getting a Grand Central phone number if they are still available but it didn't look like you can use it with any of these services unless you also have a regular phone number purchased with them. Is there an option I am missing, something that might work better? |

Reputation: | hello all, Well, I think a land line will be good for what you need. I guess you would need to find a phone that is very comfortable to use for those long calls. Or perhaps the best would be to get a nice headset to save your neck and shoulder. Have you checked into "google talk" for the long distance ones? It is awesome and free, the other person just has to install it too----you need a headset with mike of course.

Reputation: | I haven't tried Vonage but Skype is pretty good. I gave up my landline a while ago and don't miss it at all, I've got a Net 10 pre-paid because I work from home but often have to go out to see clients so my business has to travel and Net 10 has the best coverage. Skype is good for making internetional and conference calls plus I use it to chat with clients who have questions while I'm working on the computer. |

Reputation: | Voip is very nice and cheap on the monthly bill its just the voip phone is a bit spendy. Otherwise got for a regular phone that the monthly bill will be higher on and the phone itself cheaper. If your gonna be doing buisness work i would stick with one of these too and in the long run the voip will be way more practical and the voip phones on amazon arnt bad. |
