Default Great tools

Like many other posters, I really like the archive feature with GMail. I've used it almost exclusively for about 2 years and although I still have both hotmail and yahoo addresses, they only get Viagra adverts!

The search is very user-friendly, and you can tag (label) your email (You might be able to do this with the other programs as well, but I don't use them!). The mobile application also works nicely for checking mail on the go.

Very rarely an email will end up in the spam folder that isn't spam, but that is the only problem I've had.

I've been using gmail since 2004, mostly for online shopping and sign-ups. I have a hotmail account that I've had since 2000, and keep that mainly for my personal emails. The main reason I like and use gmail is the free pop3 forwarding, so I forward everything to my Thunderbird email on my computer and don't have to deal with ads. Like jlhpisces, the only problem I have is with an occasional non-spam message ending up in the spam folder, but that is quite rare.

I agree with every word you wrote. I've had a yahoo email for over 5 years and I like it - it's simple and convenient. I received a gmail account when I worked at a newspaper about a year ago, and I hated it with passion. The main issue for me was the inability to open my emails in firefox tabs so I could just go through all new letters fast or navigate through several of them at the same time.

They may have fixed that - I haven't bothered to check. The way it is right now, though, I have a good ol' reliable yahoo account and unless there is a really big incentive to switch over to google, I'm going to stay where I am. (This is also my basic argument for using Windows XP as opposed to Windows Vista, but that's a different story...)

Reason I've avoided it, is because I registered for Google/reader a few months ago on an old email, so when I log on to gmail,it logs me off my googlereader. And I've got to log back on to google reader which's annoying.

Anyone know the best way to transfer my subscription list from my old reader account to my gmail account?

Thanks
1. Log in to your old Google Account / Reader
2. Click "Settings" (top right corner)
3. Click Import/Export
4. Export your subscriptions (save the file to your computer)
5. Log out
6. Log into your new Google Account / Reader
7. Click "Settings" (top right corner)
8. Click Import/Export
9. Import your subscriptions

I use Gmail. I'm having a hard time giving up the conversation view as I'm considering moving my work email to Entourage (Mac version of Outlook). It's too bad that I can't forward old mail though, otherwise the search feature is great.

I've had a gmail account for a LONG time, and I love it. The LABELS are the same as folders, but the emails show up in BOTH the folder OR in ALL MAIL. I can even put more than one LABEL on an email. The 'conversations' are very helpful, and Gmail Corp handles any Spam extremely well, and usually without me having to go hunting for lost REAL email. Their filtering system has more benefits to it than most users will ever know. I found google's Documents, etc applications to be easy to use and excellent for sharing, or editing via wireless laptop wherever I have time to work on them.

Anyone who hasn't given Gmail a 30 day trial, doesn't know what they are missing.

I use gmail but HATE the interface. I have my gmail accounts forwarded to my mail client, so it doesn't bother me as much.

The threaded view might be the best thing to ever happen to email.

I absolutely agree. I find myself wishing I could use the same feature on my work e-mail. Sure, I can sort by subject, but then it's not also sorted by date. Just not the same.

Mozilla Thunderbird has a threaded view. That's the email client I use at work. Of course, on a work computer one may be restricted in the software that one is allowed to install but otherwise, it's worth checking out.
