Reputation: | For those of you who use yahoo, hotmail, ISP email, etc., you can set up your gmail account to "send" email from those accounts. It's just a matter of authenticating in gmail that you have those accounts. I used yahoo when my ISP went under at the turn of the century. Though it was picked up later by Charter I got used to web mail and never looked back. Now my yahoo account is nothing but a spam magnet. Gmail handles spam more effectively. I use Bloglines where you can create numerous email subscriptions. These are great for newsletters or when you need an email to register some place. If you start getting spammed, delete the email subscription. |

| Senior Member | what is the "threaded view?" i'm pretty critical of user interface design since I work in web design and am constantly surrounded by it (good AND bad hehe). for me, everything about using gmail seems difficult... buttons aren't where I'd expect them to be... I guess it just doesn't "click" for me. I'm a pretty savvy web person so when something is difficult to me it is frightening... |

Reputation: | I just signed up for a Gmail account today for a couple reasons. My DH and I are considering switching internet providers, and that's where my current email address account is through. I am not looking forward to switching all of my accounts related to the address...AGAIN!! Not fun! I figured a "forever account" would be a smart choice. Also, my work email server denies all emails from yahoo and hotmail. I often work on stuff at home and email it to myself at work. (On a side note: I'm a teacher, and it's difficult to communicate via email with parents using yahoo or hotmail accounts.) |

Reputation: | its funny to see how many people used yahoo mail. I have also, and had it for about 6 years. I just recently switched to gmail because i use alot of their web optimization tools for my website. Its just more convenient to be able to go to one place for everything i need. I love gmail. |

| Senior Member | I logged into my OLD hotmail account the other day... I stopped using it many many years ago. It's strange seeing newsletters and things that I used to read. |
