Reputation: | Forbes did a slide show of the states with the most expensive first-time speeding tickets. Just something to watch out for while driving home for the holidays. Maximum fine for first speeding ticket:

Reputation: | $1350!! As an expert collector of traffic tickets, all I can say is thank god I don't live in Virginia! (I'm sure Virginians are saying the same thing.) |

Reputation: | While I'm speeding over to Reno to lose all my money I better slow down at the state border! I live in California but drive to Nevada frequently. I guess I'm just lucky I never got a speeding ticket there! |

Reputation: | I remember hearing about Virgina. That's crazy, but I heard they are using all the extra money for the speeding tickets toward re-building and improving their infrastructure, including streets, highways, etc. Boy, a $1300 ticket sure could ruin a Holiday for a family, especially with how things are going these days. |

Reputation: | Greg, I am wondering how fast you have to go to get a speeding ticket in CA. I live in one of the top states but from my observations, you have to be qualifying (for a NASCAR race) to get a ticket. 10-15 miles above the speed limit is the norm (with no tickets). My uncle just moved to NC from LA and he mentioned that no one goes the speed limit here, just wondering if people do in other states. |

Reputation: | In SoCal, we regularly go 80 mph on the freeway (limit 65). All my tickets have been on local streets, usually when I speed up to pass a slower car. If you're going the same speed as everyone else (and that's usually above the limit), then it seems you're okay. |

Nothing ever happens to her though. We have family on the force. I know she takes advantage of that. | |

Reputation: | What happens if you are just driving through a state? I've gotten some tickets while driving thruogh Texas and Kansas. I forgot to pay the tickets and so far haven't heard a peep from them. |

Reputation: | How long has it been? Did you get a copy of the ticket, and did the officer take down your driver's license number? Something tells me that they don't forget -- I remember college buddies having to go back to South Carolina for infractions on the way to the beach from NC. |

Reputation: | It was a few years back. I was driving a rental car but I'm pretty sure the cops wrote down my driver's license number. Usually I'm pretty conscientious about these things but I totally forgot about it when I came back--it was a very exhausting trip. When I finally remembered it was a few months later so I figured maybe I'll never get in trouble.... |
