Reputation: | Clear Check Book. www.clearcheckbook.com. It is an online checkbook register with the ability to flag all your purchases into categories. It has a feature where you can put in upcoming bills to remind you to pay them. You would still need to pay them yourself via your bank or something. Our bank has the ability to do free online bill paying along with some scheduling options. Using the two seems to work, I also put bill reminders in my google calendar to prompt me what needs to be paid since paydays fluctuate. |

| Senior Member | BillQ is a web-based bill-tracking service. It lets you group and schedule bills, create reminders to pay them, and then generate expense reports when you're done with all that. If you have a roommate, it also has the bonus of letting you share bills so that you can be sure they get paid. The service is a tiered one, but I think the free version is plenty for most people. For example, you can set it up so your utility bills, credit card bills. get sent directly as "e-bills" to your bank account (so you don't have to open any envelopes or enter any numbers) and even set up automatic payments. And recurring payments even for things like rent where a paper check may need to go through the mail. This cuts down the number of steps involved, and it also cuts down the processing time for most payments. Another bill-paying tip is that if you're disciplined about credit card usage, you can set up many bills (phone, cable, internet, etc.) to be billed to your credit card, which if you're using a cash-back or other reward card, you can save a few bux each year. If you want something fancier to analyze all your spending in more detail, I've used both Wesabi and Mint, and they're worth looking into. But if you just want to make sure you're never late on your rent check--your bank's online bill pay service is the way to go, IMHO. |
