That was the year that I saved enough to open a Roth IRA, and I started giving regularly to a few charities.
This book changed the way we looked at money and started our debt turn-around! Another great one mentioned several times is "The Tightwad Gazette". Great tips but also discusses the wonderful philosophy of need vs want and being happy with what you have.

Your Money and Your Brain + Random Walk Guide to Investing (I believe these are the 2 titles), are 2 books I got from the library 1-2 months ago, that I will be buying once I find them for cheap.

I've been waiting for "Your Money or Your Life" for months now. I'm still like #19 on the library request list .

SUZE ORMAN is awesome!! I wish she was my mother! I love her book, Young, Fabulous and Broke and whenever I see her on the TV I'm completely captivated. Her bluntness always makes me laugh. I wish my own parents would listen to her... sigh.

I like Random Walk Down Wall Street.

I don't like any of Orman's books. They don't have much in them and she writes as if her audience is a bunch of sixth graders and glosses over too many details.

I would stay away from Ramsey too. From what I've read he seems bad a math. Hint: finance has a lot of math, learn it.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Robert Kiyosaki's book Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Granted, it's not really a personal finances 101 type of book, but it's definitely inspirational. I like how he manages to incorporate both a story-telling kind of narrative and an up-front no nonsense financial counsel.

I've read Suze Orman's YF&B and loved it so I can see why she dominates most of the book suggestions .

When it comes to investing basics - especially for folks thinking about doing their own trading - and for a view of all the mistakes anyone could possibly make! - I like How I Made 2 Million in the Stock Market, an oldie but goodie!

Here's yet another plug for Your Money or Your Life. It's one of several favorites that I've reviewed for Wise Bread:
Book review: Your Money or Your Life
Book review: Work Less, Live More
Book review: Spend 'til The End
Book review: The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need
Book review: The Little Book of Common Sense Investing
