I'm using a Mac and it has some really good software such as Cha-Ching. I am still terrible with actually using it though. Mint.com is the only thing that I really stay pretty true to.

I've finally got a bit of breathing room today and am going to get this project underway. I completely forgot that sometimes the differences between US and Canada are far greater than a mere border between us. mint.com looks really useful, but completely incompatible with the great white north.

Thank you to everyone who replied!

FWIW, I'm starting off with Cha-Ching and we'll see if that works out well.

I just picked up an Excel spreadsheet version of YNAB, and so far, I really like it. I think it's going to be great for me to help tighten my spending and increase my savings.

Oh and one book I would recommend checking out is David Bach's Finish Rich Workbook. It has step by step, how to get your finances in order, so I think it is pretty useful. I just hope everything in it would apply to Canada. Sorry mint.com can't help you out up there. They are a pretty new company and I am sure they will expand up there eventually.

I finally got around to using Gnucash. So far, it's pretty good.

I inputted most/all of my stats since Nov 1st 2007. Some of the finer dollar expense details I've left out since I've forgotten, but December and January are very accurate.

Does anyone know how I can make an Assets/Liabilities/Net worth Graph using Gnucash?

I'd greatly appreciate any help, since graphs going up are pretty heh.

I have been using mint.com for quite some time now and find it pretty useful. Here is an interesting review of the online software - Organizing with mint.com

I use IntelliPenny. It's fairly new software, but it does everything I need it to. If you like to use the envelope budgeting system then it allows you to do that. Plus I love to use my credit card for all my purchases. It allows me to use my credit card like a debit card. That way I can pay my credit card off every month. Check it out at www.intellipenny.com.

I like Gnucash more than Quicken. Aside from the great price, it's not as fancy as Quicken, and I like the fact it's real double entry rather than categories. Double entry is "harder", but it's useful knowledge. It's a step up from spreadsheets, but a small step.

(I also use a free web based accounting package that's not DE, and, it really sucks when you want to shuffle money around between accounts.)

I use Quicken.. I'm not sure why. It isn't the best, but it's also not the worst. I guess I use it because I have for over 10 years, and I'm VERY comfortable with it!
