Reputation: | We're in the midst of tax season now. All W-2s and 1099s should have been sent out. Have you started filing your taxes yet? Who is already done? Are you a procrastinator like me?

Reputation: | I have made it a tradition to do mine on Groundhogs Day. This year I am getting back $56, so I will go ahead and file. When I owe, I wait until the last minute to send the payment in. (getting money back means we won't be seeing 8 more weeks of winter!) |

Reputation: | Not yet. According to Ameritrade, my account "holds a position(s) with a high likelihood of a dividend reclassification." The upshot is I won't get a 1099 from them until late February and even then, I may still get 1099 corrections until late March. However, it won't do me any good to file early anyway. Based on the info I have, I'll owe more than $5K so I might as well pay later and collect a bit of interest on cash I've set aside for taxes. |

Reputation: | Every year I am determined not to procrastinate till the last minute, but I always end up mailing my return and payment on the 14th or 15th of April. I've started assembling the forms and instructions I'll be needing (ordered them from IRS and just received them in the last few days). I still have to calculate all my business expenses and contact my utility companies for my 2007 account summaries (good thing you posted this thread because it just reminded me I needed to do that

Reputation: | I'm still waiting to get my copy of TurboTax before starting my taxes. I usually file as early as I have free time. Usually I'm done by the end of February, assuming I haven't had a ton of deadlines to meet for work. |

Reputation: | I think I will definitely start this weekend. I am pretty excited since it's the first time I will be filing taxes with the hubby!! Then again, we might have a bigger tax bill so that's not so exciting.

Reputation: | Yeah, I've calculated my taxes but will sit on it until April. I owe $ :-(. I guess the universe is conspiring to strip me off my earnings. Ok, its time for ice-cream. |

Reputation: | I filed mine about 2 weeks ago (after I came home one saturday night from a REALLY bad date - I knew I was getting some $ back so I thought it would make me feel a little better at least). I got my refund in less than the 10 days. Question: This year I received 1,000 back. I don't ever recall getting this big of a return. Should I adjust my withholdings? I did the calculater on the IRS site, and if I do I'd end up probably owing $300 next year. But that would be better, right? |

Reputation: | I filed mine this weekend. Ended up owing more to the state(s) than I'm getting back from the feds (gotta love that moving deduction). The states have already taken their money out of my account, so now I'm looking forward to that federal refund to make up some of the loss.

Reputation: | I'm filing mine next week. I'm not in a huge hurry. I don't see the point in rushing to get mine done. I like keep my refund or payment a surprise.
