I have 4. One is linked to my checking account as overdraft protection and rarely gets used. Then I got an AmEx Blue card which had an introductory no-interest, so I purchased my favorite computer ever.

The other 2 are store-specific, Kohl's and Victoria's secret. I get extra coupons and savings for having both of them, so that's good, but I still don't like to use them that much.

The only one I carry a balance on is the AmEx, as it is not yet gaining interest. I am itching to get it paid off ASAP (finally started my first full-time job, so it's finally starting to be possible).

I have two credit cards that I am working on paying off. My goal is to leave grad school (May 2009) with no debt outside of student loans. I am in a good position to accomplish the goal.

I'll probably leave them open to maintain a good credit history.

Default How many credit cards do I have?

It was funny because my initial response was that I have one credit card -- a Bank of America card that I use for pretty much everything. Then I looked in my wallet and was surprised because I found:

2. Costco/American Express
3. Nordstroms
4. Macy's
5. JC Penney

Because I only use these in one store, I guess I don't really consider them "credit cards." Yet, they are!

I was planning to get a Costco/AMEX credit card and I would appreciate if you share your experience with this card.

1: Capital One No Hassle Card: use for groceries and bills
2: Upromise card from Citi: use for online purchases
3: Cashback Discover: use for large purchases
4: Bank of America: have because it's the oldest and still has a low fixed rate and high limit. use for emergencies.

For me, the key is to assign each card a place in the monthly budget. Each is paid off each month -- except sometimes the emergency card if something big comes up, and then we pay it off as fast as possible -- so no interest. Each has some benefit or reward.

I have 39 and am using 15 of them for credit card arbitrage. You can read about my credit card arbitrage here.
