Reputation: | How many here are retired? I retired rather early and was glad I had been frugal all my life. I worked for 3 major corporations, so when I got vested, I pulled out and moved to another company. I hope the young people who post here have that same oppotunity. Feedback please. |

Reputation: | I just got out of college so I'm not quite at that stage yet. But it is good to actually hear that people are retiring well nowadays instead of just hearing stories of how people got screwed by their companies, bad investments, etc. that is forcing them to work well into their retirement years. |

Reputation: | Congratulations on retiring early! I am 26 and only four years out of college so I am not retired yet. I do read the early retirement forum at http://early-retirement.org a lot. I am hoping to retire in less than 20 years with the hubby. We're making pretty good progress on our savings and I think we could definitely do it. I find that there are a lot of naysayers to our plan of early retirement, but it is definitely a personal goal. People are always asking, "won't you be bored if you retire that early?" The truth is that we ALWAYS find a lot of things to do when we have free time. In fact there is not enough free time. A lot of people are actually more bored at work because they are forced to something over and over again. Anyway, I will definitely write about it when I drop out of the corporate life in the glass tower.

Reputation: | I like this thread! I am currently 41 and am planing to retire in 4 years. My goal is to sell my business and "retire" when I am 45. I won't retire but I plan to spend the majority of my time working with and teaching ohers how to do the same thing! I think it's a great goal! Mike |

Reputation: | That's a good way to look at it Kenyan...Having financial independence is really what this is all about (well, at least for me) My goal of "retiring" is really about being able to focus on the things I really enjoy and being able to live off of my investments. Mike |

Reputation: | Sorry, I tried to look that word up in my entrepreneur's dictionary. It was not listed. I have never really related to the official definition of "retirement". I guess because it seemed require accepting a prospective of structure. A beginning with specific steps leading to a planned end...retirement. That view just sucked the life out of my creativity room, lol. I make money creating and experimenting with different ideas...I do not "work". (except for my brief corporate "career"). I suppose people who know me would say when I left that world (about age 40), I "retired". But I am still starting businesses, running them until I run away again to start another one. I will probably drop dead someday...in the middle of some new venture I jumped into. Life is just one big sandbox for me. I am debt free, financially stable (whatever that means), and living pretty well for a crazy guy....hehehe
