Wow, well if that's the case, 10,000 readers in roughly 18 months is an incredible achievement.

Anyone have ideas on what has made Wisebread so successful? Is it primarily good quality articles on a regular basis, or is there more to it?

I think it was the awesome articles that kept me coming back.
The authors are so wide ranging--I don't like (on other sites) reading just one point of view (i.e. one guy that smacks of elitism, or one mom that beats the dead horse on how to raise your kids, or one lady that makes people feel bad for buying something, etc, etc.)

I like the fact that if you don't particularly like the writing style or message of an author, you can skip their articles and still have plenty to read.

Here on the forums I like that people are generally positive and accepting, and people don't judge or flame others.

I like a good debate just as well as the next person, but I hate it when comments get personal and overly-critical.

yeah.. different authors make Wise Bread more like a magazine, and we're not just a link farm blog, either.

Hmm, interesting...

I noticed that WB also seems to have an unorthodox method for compensating its writers - it seems that rather than paying by the word/article, the author is entitled to any ad revenues from the page the article is on. Is this correct? If so, how does the writer know they are not getting shafted?

yeah. Wise Bread has 100% Adshare on the articles we write. The Google Ads on my articles run my own Adsense publisher ID so I can see the money coming in in my own Adsense account. Obviously, some articles make more and some make less depending on the keywords and traffic. The admins also allow us to see the Google analytics statistics of the whole site to see how much views we are getting on our articles. The same goes for Parenting Squad at http://parentingsquad.com.

The admins Lynn, Will and Greg also work really hard to help us monetize Wise Bread and keep the site up so it is a great place for bloggers!

Here're more details: http://www.wisebread.com/make-money-...for-wise-bread
