Oh, rstlne ... you just made my day! I was getting so tired of rolling my eyes at people who say they'll be saving (and so will X number of their friends), so the government's plan won't be stimulating the economy.

But y'all shouldn't be counting your eggs yet. The Senate still has to clear the bill; the stimulus package is hardly law. Especially don't start spending money that's not yet in your mailbox!

Maybe it would be patriotic if the HD TV had a flag decal on the side.

The best way to fix the distortions in the economy is to go through the correction phase and learn to live on less for a few years until we get past it. But no politician ever got voted in for saying that.

Default Pay down Debt

I plan to pay down some debt. I would like to have that money sit in my high yield savings account. I just look at it as money I never planned on receiving, so I will just use it to reduce my debt.

If I'm still being nailed by my title loan (I know, I know), that will get paid down.

Hear hear. We always blame politicians for being slick and short-sighted, but ultimately we refuse to vote for politicians who will tell us the truth about our economy.

The whole concept is pretty unsound. Sure it may stimulate the economy in the short term, but in the long term we are just borrowing more money from China, money our children would have to pay back.
And likely buying products imported from China.

I'd say a lot of people will be making mortgage payments on houses they can't afford...

If I don't burst a vessel complaining about this manipulative move during an election year, I am going to take all/part of ours and get the hole in my roof fixed. Fingers crossed that it can be fixed with just a couple replacement shingles. The Crisco can in my bathroom to catch the water is getting a little old....
