Reputation: | Considering that our annual household income before taxes is around $170k now I'd be pretty content with $250k. Anything less than what we have now would make things difficult....... |

Reputation: | I can't figure out how to answer this. See if I owned my house outright and didn't owe on a car or student loans my answer would be totally different. Realistically my house payment is around 30% of our income so if that disappeared what I would be satisfied with would be reduced by that amount. This is also heavily influence by where you live. Six figure salaries in Iowa are not the norm but I don't think that much would be required to live - even with many kids. Anyway, I find the question interesting because it assumes satisfaction is from amount made and not from amount owed (mortgage, car, student loans, etc.) |

Reputation: | neither husband nor I are really cut out to be big buckers. I am/was a teacher who wanted to stay a teacher (not move up food chain) and husband is a writer. I'm happy living in a "grandma" (e.g. 1940s built) house full of 2nd hand furniture and such, but husband was raised to believe that "other peoples stuff is dirty."Oh. Oh. Oh. What can I do? I adore him regardless. Anyway, we ended up with two more kids than the one we'd planned (1+2=3) sooo...I just would be satisfied to know we could plan more for the future and not so much for the water bill (deep south D4 drought, year 2). But I know I have friends who are far higher up on the kaching chain and still, they struggle, so who knows? It's all lessons we have to learn. Must get to my big four year old twins now. Have made horrible train cake from scratch to transport to pre-k (yes, they do need to go to pre-k). I just wish I could get the worry level a bit lower, you know? regards, leslie |
