The person who you refer gets a $25 bonus and you get a $10 bonus.

3.0% is what ING is going with now, and there are better rates out there. I chose ShoreBank on the basis of it's 3.5%, but also because they are green and community focused. I didn't know about them until I read a post on getrichslowly.org, but they've been around for a while. I want to see institutions like this succeed for the betterment (financial and otherwise) of all participants.

ING is not worth the trouble!! After opening a joint account, I added a
link to an external bank, which had only one of the joint account holders
name on the external account. We are married and have both joint and
individual accounts. ING accepted the link, verified the account, and
accepted a deposit from that account to the ING account. Then they froze my
access to the ING accounts; I could only transfer money into ING. After two
days of trying to get the fraud department on the phone, they explained
that the external account needed to be in both names or needed to be
deleted. This made no sense, but I gave up and deleted the external
account. Then they froze my account completely and put it through a
sixty-day risk review. I had no access to my money and no recourse. Bank
elsewhere!

One of the safest place where you can save is ING.
ING partnered with Vysya is also available in few countries.

In a recent review I looked at ING vs HSBC and how to choose an online savings account. ING is the best choice currently, espically after leading competior HSBC dropeed its APY. Also as the credit markets worsen over the next few months, especially if the Fed lowers rates, APY's for all on-line savings accounts will fall. However, HSBC and ING should still be market leaders in the online savings account space thanks to their global reach and operations.

Most people I work with have ING CD bank account and usually rave about the following things:

- easy to open new CDs/savings accounts
- offer great referral bonus
- APRs are usually the best on the market (with no minimums)
- easy to transfer money to other main stream accounts like Chase or BofA
- great web interface (which makes sense...haha)

I also recommend you check out HSBC direct if you don't have a checkings account as it is sometimes easier to have both at the same bank.

hope this helps.

best,
alex
