| Senior Member | As a part of my new year's resolution, I signed up for ING Direct and have been having incremental funds withdrawn from my account. It's helped me save money for the first time. As before, with online banking, I would have money in my savings account and whenever I was running low in Checking's I would just transfer money from my savings account back to checking. This way I never saved money, obviously. What is everyone's opinion about ING Direct? Is there a better online banking than ING Direct? Any other comments about ING?

Reputation: | ING gets a thumbs up from me. I've used them for a number of years. Their web interface is pretty easy to use, and I haven't experienced any issues on their end. I once had to call their phone support to ask about my Netbank account (which they took over when Netbank went defunct). Maybe I have low expectations about phone support agents, but their phone help was actually helpful and informative. |

Reputation: | I really like ING Direct. It may not have the highest interest rate, but I like the features (I especially like that it tells you each day how much interest you've earned so far that month - it drives me to keep saving), and the customer service is great. I also like that you can create sub-accounts within your account.

Reputation: | I've had an online savings account at ING Direct for quite a while. Then HSBC Direct had a special deal so I moved money over there. But I still have the ING Direct account open with a small amount of money in it. No problems so far. |

Reputation: | I have this for my son as his saving's account. When I finally get a job I will open one for myself. I love the fact that you can't just immediately withdraw money so I'm not tempted at all. The PR really went down (it was about 4.5% when we opened it) but it's still much better than our regular savings account. |

Reputation: | I had HSBC and Emigrant Direct. ING had already dropped APY by the time I got around to moving money. I heard ING has a good interface. ED is pretty good as well. Hated the HSBC website. I moved all my money back to b&m for 5.25% at my CU. You may have a branch in your area. https://www.parkfcu.org/home.htm

| Member | I have an ING account. They do have one of the lowest interest rates in the online banking realm, but I signed up with them because they had a track record. I have another account elsewhere for which I've misplaced my login information. I've called them up, they've sent me a new password (supposedly) by mail, but I haven't received it yet. With ING I've had no such problems. They seem to have worked out a lot of the kinks.

Reputation: | ING has really help me save, I had the same problem having the as USCGamecocks, transferring money from my saving to my checking with the click on the mouse. At ING it is a little more effort and a couple of days to get the money. I like their web-site and customer service was very helpful when I forgot my PIN. Recieved it in the mail within 2 - 3 days. It was a good way to get my saving back on track and start my "Pay Myself First" account. |

Reputation: | I have started my on-line saving plan with ING Direct as well. Since then I have moved my funds to Countrywide as ING's rates have been substantially lower than the latter. Countrywide might look risky with the bottom falling out on the sub-prime lending but their savings and CDs are 100% FDIC insured, so I'm not at all concerned. ING linked beautifully with Qicken, with Countrywide I have to manually enter the transactions. But entering a couple of depsoits and interest income once a month is not that big of a chore. |
