-People carrying a balance has also risen from 37% to 57%

-Card.com estimated that the average balance carried by families with credit cards was $9,300 in 2004.

-Bankruptcy filings have increased from 250,000 in 1980 to 2.6 million last year.

If you are worried about fraud, a good way to protect yourself is place a security freeze on your credit file. The freeze blocks access to credit information that businesses usually require to open new accounts.
