My mother was always much better at managing finances than my father, and she basically handled most of the finances. However, in my new family I handle the finances. Dave Ramsey says that in every couple there is usually one person that is generally more conservative and one that is the risk-taker. In the end it's about blending those two different personality types. Throw the stereotypes out and look at yourself openly and honestly, and find out where you fall in this continuum. Am I the spender or saver?

I think men and women are created equal. Of course there are some things that men and women are better at but I think in terms of managing money, it's a tie. There's no specific genger who has an advantage or is better in managing money. I think that it depends on the person, his/her personality, and her/his qualities.

I don't think either gender is inherently better with money.

As far as perception goes, my guess is that if a man is bad with money, he's considered to be just an individual who happens to be bad with money. If a woman is bad with money, she's considered to be proof that women are bad with money. From XKCD:

I would say that it is half and half. Some men are very good when it comes to managing their finances.
