Reputation: | I always hear people at work say this. As if it is an excuse or justification as to their own personal financial situation. It’s like "Oh well, what can I do. The rich get richer." The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen. Why is this? Thanks, B

Reputation: | (s'cuse me while I channel T.Harv Ecker).."the rich are programmed to make money. The cause and effect chain is like this. Past programming influences thoughts which affect beliefs which inspire actions which affect outcomes." If a person was never programmed that it's good to desire riches, to deserve riches, to take actions towards riches, and to acquire riches, then she won't pursue it, and accordingly she won't get it. Replace "riches" with any subject, and this also fits....education, love, happiness, career development, fitness, ability to swim, to ride a motorcycle, etc. etc. It's an inner game (mind) and an outer game (manifestation). Does that make sense? |

Reputation: | I can't speak for other countries, but what I find interesting is that the overwhelming majority of millionaires in the United States weren't born that way. So those who accumulate wealth must continue to do what they were doing in order to accumulate more wealth. It makes perfect sense to me. In my experience, people who say "the rich get richer" tend to look outside of themselves for a solution to their problems. Being envious of someone's accomplishments does nothing for me. It is better to emulate than to envy. |

Reputation: | People learn different things in life. Rich people learn how to make money while others learns in other subjects like history, politic, fashion. the question is how much money you make from what you learn. It is important to know what is your passion in life. It will determine what you want to learn.

Reputation: | I would argue that the rich people are born with more opportunities to make money quickly. They have the opportunity to make investments that those with less money could never dream of. These investments can make them a large amount of more money. For example, how many people who were not born rich can buy a sports team or a large company? Now, the rich person needs to have some sense to determine which investments will make him money and which ones will make him money. The key point is that rich people can afford risk, and with risk comes large returns. Of course, those who are not rich can become rich with smart spending and investing, but it will take more time and energy than it would for an equally smart person that was rich to begin with. |

Reputation: | I think the saying itself is wrong. In truth both the rich and poor get richer every day. The main problem is when people compare rich to poor, they use only income as a means of comparison. They tend to neglect quality of life. todays poor family would be considered rich a century ago. they have car, television, running water, refrigeration, electricity, and indoor plumbing. If you only count wages you miss a whole lot. It funny how our perception of wealth will make us poor or rich. If you judge wealth by what another has, you tend to miss what you have. |

Reputation: | @moon02 While I agree that the poor today are better off than the poor people of a century ago, I do not believe that all poor people have all of the things you listed. There are many, many poor families without cars and even more without TV's. I also think that it is easier for a rich person to get richer than it is for a poor person to get the same amount richer. |

Reputation: | I understand your point flipchick, however you missed my main emphasis. I was trying to make the point its not just the rich that are getting richer. I do agree with you its easier for a rich person to get richer then a poor person, but at the same time its a lot easier for a poor person, then it has been historically. With free access to education among the many benefits poor have today, I would say its much better to be a smart poor man then a dumb rich one. It still better to be the dumb rich one ala paris hilton, then a dumb poor man, but this a great improvement. A long time ago you could be brilliant and it wouldn't matter. You would not have access to the resources to develop your abilities or use them, do to social status. This aspect of the rich and poor dynamic has greatly improved. Do all areas of the world enjoy this, no but I am speaking largely of america. |
