Default Spending Tracking Applications..

Are there any free applications that will track spending?

I like to keep track of spending down to the cost of a gallon of milk.

I guess I really want an application that is customizable and detail oriented. Things like Mint and such are nice if you don't care about each individual item purchased at a store, but I want an application that will track all that.

I've been using spreadsheets, but I wonder if there is a better way?

Not to self promote but in case you haven't seen my older post, here's one I wrote :

That program was my attempt to do something similar to what your asking... kind of my 'reality check' to counterbalance my 'theoretical' projection program called continuum... they are both bundled in 1 install.

---
Update : Oops sorry yes this doesnt go down to individual items ... only to transaction level

Thanks, I think I'll probably end up writing one myself. I guess not enough people are that neurotic to track spending by item. xD

Hah yes well i imagine tracking to individual item is not something most people could do continually, but enlightening to do once maybe... like a 1 month sample.

To bad you cant get your receipts in electronic format... or maybe like a barcode you could scan printed on the receipts but yea that would require alot of diligence to manually enter.

That would be awesome. People should do this. Advertisement companies would pay big bucks for data like that. As it is I think they are more or less limited to what you buy at a single store, and only if you sign the store card policy or something.

That's good if there is something can track spending.it is easy to know where we used the money, and know how to manage it.

I created some free financial tools :

Those pennies add up! So keeping track of small purchases or purchases made with petty cash is a smart way to track your money. And with the NEW & FREE Cashtrackerpro Access add-on you will stay on your budget.

Cashtrackerpro Excel is designed to help you save the money you make. Anyone can create a personal savings plan with Cashtrackerpro Excel, even with a tight budget.

Both tools can be found at the Cash Tracker Pro site.

I like the way Mint tracks your spending and automatically categorizes it. But there are a lot of other free programs out there that do it now as well.

Mint is great for that, but it unfortunately can't track on an item by item basis. A lot of times I buy cat food, or cleaning supplies at the grocery store, and I don't necessarily want to categorize those things as "groceries."
