Reputation: | This is a pet peeve of mine, and I wonder if anyone has found a good way around the policies of stores who offer extra discounts, coupons, etc. to credit card holders. The stores that immediately come to mind are Kohl's, Victoria Secret, Macy's, Boscov's. I had opened a Kohl's card to benefit from their promotions, but closed it when it was purchased by one of the evil, big credit card companies. I have friends who charge at the register, then make a cash payment at the same register for the purchase. I'm wary enough of the big credit card companies that I figured I would mess something up and end up with a $100 bill for saving 5 bucks on a pair of pants. I'd be curious to hear what y'all think! |

| Senior Member | I don't do enough shopping at those placing unless there is serious clearance savings so it never bothers me. Most of the discounts I use are for anyone and I don't buy from them online so the free shipping possibility for Kohls doesn't bother me. I have friends who have cards there so if I really want something I bring them along and they purchase it with their discount then I give them cash right there to cover it.

Reputation: | Kohl's is the only store card that I have anymore. I haven't noticed any difference in how the account is managed except that my due date changed by a couple of weeks. As long as they keep sending me discounts, I'll keep the card. I did cancel my JCPenney's card several years ago because their benefits seemed to evaporate after they were purchased by a major credit card company, and I found the store in my town to be a cramped, dark, unpleasant place to shop anyway. |

Reputation: | Macys, Jordan's Furniture, Best Buy (sends me coupons in the mail), Home Depot has coupons in the mail. I have found that some coupons say you can only use them if you have the store card. This is how I ended up with some store cards because I wanted to used coupons. It saved me a $100 on my couch this summer.

| Senior Member | Those stores make a lot of money on their branded credit cards -- usually far above what rewards they hand out. Store credit cards have their own problems, too, but if you really like a particular store and would shop there anyway, why not get extra rewards? (This assumes that the cards are used for convenience only, and not for carrying a balance.)

Reputation: | Reward credit cards that offer the best rewards programs provide cardholders with the opportunity to earn cash back, gasoline rebates, frequent flyer points and entertainment and store discounts based on their purchase activities with these cards. When deciding amongst the best reward credit card offers available, you first need to properly qualify yourself for these type of credit cards. Rewards credit cards are immensely popular due to their incentives driven packages. The credit card holder is rewarded for their loyalty and use of the credit cards by way of discounts, gifts and in some cases actual money. Most credit card companies offer incentives for new cardholders. These are often long term low interest rates for balance transfers or 0% interest on purchases and balance transfers. These are attractive incentives for card holders who have debts that they want to manage effectively. Many jump from card to card, rate surfing to take advantage of preferential interest rates. |
