I actually did only one thing, which was to cut spending. So far, I've eliminated around $800 in expenses for this year by taking a closer look at what I'm spending on to see which items are relatively unimportant and can be eliminated and also by taking a suggestion or two from Wise Bread and Wise Bread forums. My expenses are already way below my wage income and also slightly below my investment income so I think I'm covered but one can never be too careful.

I was waiting to pick up our car at the mechanics today. This guy that came in was looking for new rims for his corvette. I was a rather captive audience for their entire loud conversation. He mentioned that his trucking company was busy as ever and claimed that people don't know what they are talking about the economy is just fine. Then he mentioned that everyone is making less of a profit on things. This really actually made me mad. I so wanted to shove my check register in this guys face and offer to let him pay our gas and grocery bills.
We must not be the only people feeling the imaginary recession though. Our dentist who is usually very low key was pushing everyone to get various services done "right now" and he isn't usually like that.

I think many people are feeling it. The housing downturn has had a huge effect on everything as has the price of fuel. The guy with the trucking business sounds like he's trying to talk himself into something that isn't true. Bet he'd cut wages but his vette will always have the newest and bestest!

There is a reason why when you log on at 6 a.m. there are over a hundred people reading a finance forum. People are worried.

I have decided to shop for a bike to run local errands more cost effectively. It makes sense environmentally as well and the bonus of the exercise. I used to ride 100 miles a week years ago. I am looking forward to combining savings with exercise now that the winter in the northeast is heading into spring. My gym membership expires in a couple of weeks. I got my money's worth out of it this winter and it allowed me the bonus of socialization in a rather isolated community.

I'll be on the lookout for the next expansion. When it seems everybody is cutting back--earnings forecasts, spending, hiring, etc., somebody has got to be out there doing the opposite. Question is: who is it? What's Warren Buffett doing? [Saw a story on Bloomberg TV this morning that said he was going to have a cameo appearance on a soap opera.] What's Apple, Inc., doing? Intel? Who is going to lead in the expansion?
