Reputation: | I'd be interested in finding out what cash back cards you all use, just to satisfy my curiosity. I know many of you agree with my post that you're losing money if you don't have a cash back card, so which ones do you use? I personally have a TD Canada Trust Rebate Rewards card. It gives me 0.5% on the first $3000 per year and then 1% back on everything above that. This is one of the best cash back cards available in Canada. It also has no annual fee. Which ones do you use?

Reputation: | All 3 of my cards are cashback now. My first cashback card was a Citi Platinum Dividend Preferred, which pays 2% on groceries, gas, and drug store purchases and 1% on everything else. I got this my senior year of college. Then I got a WaMu MasterCard, which originally didn't pay any cashback. I only got it because it provided free monthly updates on my credit score. Last month WaMu added 1% cashback to this card, but I'll still only use it to pay off my cell phone bill (to keep it active while I get credit score updates). My favorite card is my Discover Card, which has a tiered cashback system returning from 0.25% up to 1% on all purchases. This seems like a bad deal since I already have 2 other cards returning 1%, but the Discover Card also offers 5% cashback on certain categories that change every 3 months. For January through March, Discover offered 5% cashback on hotels and travel, so I put all of my vacation on the card. |

Reputation: | My sister and I share an AMEX Blue Cash credit card that gets us up to 5% off on groceries, gas and drugstores purchases and 1.5% on all other purchases. You have to charge $6,500 before you can get the 5% and 1.5%. Before the $6,500 it's 1.5% and .5%, I think. We also use an Amazon.com card for anywhere that doesn't take AMEX and get 1% and 3% for Amazon purchases.

Reputation: | We have a Citi Platinum Dividend and use it for everything we possibly can. I mean, we don't stop for tacos on the way home from work without whipping out that card. But we never carry a balance. We treat it as if it were one of those old-style AmEx cards that required the full balance be paid each month. Rob

Reputation: | I wish Canada had an Amex Blue Cash equivalent. I haven't found one yet; I've been planning on doing a Blue Cash review for a while...

Reputation: | I used to use Discover card until November at which point I switched over to Amex Blue Cash. Discover gave 0.25% for the frist $1k, 0.5% for the second $1k, 0.75 for the third and 1% for above that making it 0.5% for the first $3k and 1% for everything over that. Now the Amex Blue gives 0.5% on regular pruchases up to $6500 and 1% on grocery stores, gas and drug stores while these jump to 1.5% and 5% respectivery over $6500. I use this Amex card for everything I possibly can. For places that don't take the Amex I use PayPal Mastercard tied to my checking account so I get 1% back instantly. |

Reputation: | I just recently switched to the Chase Freedom card. You earn 3% on your top three spending categories (adjusted each month) and 1% on everything else. The first time you use your card they give you $100. You can redeem your money after $50 I think, but if you keep it in there until you've reached $200 they'll give you an extra $50 so you end up getting $250.

Reputation: | Well, I only have one credit card because it is the only one that I am qualified yet still comes with cash back benefits. It is Citi Dividend for college students. I think it pays like 5% for the first six months all regular purchases, then 1% afterward. Right have I have like about $28 in my card balance. Pretty sweet. Wish I am qualified for other reward cards though, especially those with benefits extending to online purchases. |

Reputation: | the ones I have are: Citi Drivers Edge options - 6% back on groceries and gas for the first year (my first year is about to expire so I'm going to get the hubby to sign up for one). The rebate cash can be used for car maintenance or converted into thankyou points. Then 1 thankyou point per mile you drive on your car. Chase Cash Rewards - 5% back on groceries and gas (this card is no longer available) Citi Professional - 3% back on restaurants. I only use this on restaurants and this gives thankyou points. Amex Costco card - 1% back at costco. We only use this at costco Amex blue cash - I don't use this card anymore because it has this tiered reward thing and I don't spend much. I should get a Discover card to take advantage of their various 5% offers, but I'm too lazy to get another card.

Reputation: | I also use a Discover card, mostly for the rotating categories of 5% cash back. It's also nice if you want to take your cashback in the form of gift certificates at select partners, where you get an additional bonus percentage added to your earned cash back. I find those gift certificates handy come holiday time or if I need to make a purchase at one of the partner vendors anyhow. I also use an EmigrantDirect Mastercard. 1.4% back on everything deposited back into your ED account, provided you maintain at least a 10K savings balance. |
