Reputation: | I use a spreadsheet (OpenOffice) to do my accounting for business and taxes. I don't really track my day to day spending. I like how spreadsheets are easily customizable with formulas and it's free, at least if you use OpenOffice or already have Microsoft Office Excel.

| Senior Member | I'm a fan of Quicken because my online bank is pretty lame. Quicken spices things up and gives me charts and graph... I response well to these graphs. Automate features like Quicken that download in your transaction are a little better because they take away the fact of you having to manually input transactions which you might do for a few weeks but just like dieting or in my case going running like I'm suppose do I get lazy and miss days.

Reputation: | I love Quicken. In fact, I have a link on my blog where you can save $20 to $30 on it. You can see it at http://independentbeginnings.com/?p=120. I also use a spreadsheet to keep track of my budget. I just created it myself and I love it. It lets me know how much I have spent in each category so far for the month and how much I have left until I reach my spending limit in that category. I posted the template I made online for free. You can download it at http://independentbeginnings.com/?p=149. Let me know if you have any suggestions for improving it. I find it pretty useful. |

Reputation: | First off all you need to understand what you would like to achieve. Just spend a lot of time tracing every transaction or thinking about new investments and how to increase your financial IQ. In this case I prefer something simple such as Aimiya Software (www.aim4y.com) . I think about result rather than a process. |

Reputation: | Google Docs. I know that's the exactly considered "financial software," but I use it as such, and it works like a charm! I wouldn't use anything else. I've tried Mint and PearBudget, Mvelopes and YNBA too, but I can't get away from a good ol' fashioned spreadsheet that does everything I tell it to do. It's great.

Reputation: | You are right, you can develop exactly what you want, but problem is that you can do it only with PC (or smart devices) and I prefer to spend my time with something else. But while you have time sometimes it is more appropriate to use cell phone. But program for such devices can not be so complicated. On the other hand, why you need complicated soft, what you need to manage? Any specific soft could not substitute general. |

Reputation: | I think Mint is pretty awesome, not sure if it's considered software. I'll probably teach myself how to work a spreadsheet sometime in the future. |
