Default Handcrafted baby goods at Babycat Goods

The Beginnings of Babycat Goods

I love to sew, and after the birth of my first son five years ago I found a real lack of baby things made by hand, or that weren't pastel colors, or that didn't look industrial. I wanted something unique for my baby, a simple product, something that wasn't mass manufactured by three year old slave girls in some dimly lit factory, something that didn't cost an arm and a leg. And I couldn't find it.

So, I made my own.

I started with a diaper envelope, which is a simple envelope shaped pouch in which you can put two or three diapers and a wipes container. It's the perfect size to toss in a stroller basket or stash in your purse.

Then my son started getting mobile, so I made him a thickly cushioned playmat, so that he wouldn't get cold on our very hard tile floors.

Soon he started to eat solids. We were always big fans of going out to eat, but I didn't want to take a big feeding kit, nor did I want his (clean or dirty) spoon floating around in my purse. So I made a spoon wrap.

I started giving these things to friends as baby gifts, and people loved them. So my entrepreneurial spirit said to my crafty side "Why not open an Etsy shop?". And my crafty side said "Sure, sounds great!".

And thus was born Babycat Goods: handcrafted baby blankets, carriers, diaper envelopes, cloth diaper bags, spoon wraps, tooth fairy bags and more. It only makes the cut if I have made it, used it, and approved it with my own children.

Come by and visit! And if you have an idea for something you would like, then please let me know, because I also take custom orders.
