Micro-Donations for Darfur

Note: Donations have ended.

Even with limited funds, you can make a difference in the lives of people far worse off than you. Micro-donations enable us to give what we can. Even as little as $1.

One issue that fires me up is the mass killing and raping currently happening in the Darfur conflict. I can't believe it's 2006 and there is genocide in the world, and nobody seems to care about it. Humanity's apathy saddens and amazes me.

We can help by giving what we can and spreading the word.

Check out the Darfur Wall, a nifty piece of web eye-candy created and managed by the Darfur Foundation, whose sole mission is to promote peace in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Click [the image] above to approach the wall and begin viewing its 400,000 numbers, one for each person killed in the Darfur genocide. Donate one dollar or more to turn a number from dark gray to brilliant white and honor one lost life.

The wall reminds me of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, except that it's more like a counter than a memorial. The genocide is still happening, and that 400,000 number has already been surpassed by some accounts.

The father and sons team behind the Wall pay for all the expenses so 100% of the donations go to Darfur. They send all the money (in equal parts) to several organizations:

Stay up-to-date with their progress at the Darfur Wall blog. The Darfur Wall project accepts donations for as little as $1, so what are you waiting for?

Want to do even more? Then spread the word! The power of micro-donations comes into play when millions (dare we hope?) all give a little bit. Just a thousand people giving $10 each equals $10,000. A million people giving a dollar each....Your voice makes a difference. Tell your friends.

Don't just stop here. Giving to charity is an incredible and rewarding experience. We've got you covered if you're not sure how to find the right charity for you, and even a list of some of our favorites. Get giving.

In honor of the new year, I picked 2007 with the hope that the new year will bring us a new era of peace and understanding.

They accept PayPal and I was able to get the donantion processed in less than 30 seconds. There is really no excuse not to give at least a $1.

This would also make a great gift for someone.

I think many of us are worried about the situation there but most of the time we just shrug and think "oh well that's a big problem and I don't really think I can help." You guys are able to break down that apathy with a user friendly and fun way to donate money to Darfur. Great job!
