Never Pay for a RedBox DVD Rental Again

By Paul Michael on 30 March 2008 (Updated 13 August 2013) 237 comments

Why go to Blockbuster or Hollywood Video? Why pay $4-$5 for a DVD movie rental? Why pay anything for a DVD rental ever again? For the last month, I haven't paid for one new release movie at RedBox, and sometimes I've rented two or three in one day. It's legit, it's easy, and if you ever pay even one cent for a DVD rental again, well, you're paying too much. (See also: 8 Ways to Save Money on Entertainment)

I have to thank Peter for first bringing my attention to this back in January, when I posted a free coupon for Hollywood Video. What a fool I was, in hindsight. I was looking for these free rental coupons, scouring the web and clipping magazines and newspapers. All I had to do was pop along to the RedBox which is on my way home from work, punch in a code and grab my free rental.

Code Sharing for RedBox

This is not like illegal downloading (which I hate — cheap, not frugal) or borrowing a copy from a friend. RedBox actually distributes these codes weekly if you sign up for SMS or email messaging. You get free rental codes which you can use for one night's free rental.

But this is the social media age, and the Internet creates a vast number of people all getting codes. Enter the code sharing websites. I've listed a few of my favorites below, but what they basically create is a community of people sharing codes for the RedBox rentals.

Each code is good for one use per credit/debit card (you need to swipe it, you will be charged for each additional day you may have the movie out). If you have more than one card, you get more than one free rental off that code. I have swiped three cards, entered that same code each time, and got three brand new releases for a whole day of movie heaven. OK, so I'm a movie addict.

All you need to do is visit these sites and print out the latest list of codes before your trip to the local RedBox. I like Inside Redbox the best, it gives a percentage rating for the codes, much like RetailMeNot. Anyway, choose your movie, punch in a code (hit the Add Promo Code button), swipe your card and take home your free rental. As long as you return it before 9pm the following day, you never pay for that movie. I do believe they put a $1 hold on your card for each rental, but that is of course returned to you very quickly.

So, there you have it. I can't really believe Blockbuster and Hollywood Video can compete with completely free rentals. And to be honest, with the late fees I've paid in the past, I'm no fan of either.

[Update: the Monday email I received from RedBox today with my code was followed with the phrase, Forward To Friends. I think that settles the ongoing debate about whether RedBox approves of code sharing]

Sites to Find Redbox Codes

Here are sites you can try for codes, which are constantly updated. At the time of writing this article (updated on April 23rd, 2010), both DVDONME and BREAKROOM are working codes that will get you a free rental.

I rented several times from redbox with no problems. Until i got my credit card statement in! I am being charged $25.00 PLUS TAX for a movie that i did return. I called redbox and complained they basicly said i was a liar and i got no help! So i will not be renting from ripoff box anymore!!!

I rented two movies from REDBOX, returned them both the next day and have been charged a 15.00 fee to my acct???? I won't be using it again, for us single moms on a strict budget it's not right for them to be able to access fees that shouldn't be there.

R.B. customer service is more than helpful! Did you even call them about your bogus charges?? You can buy the movies for $7.00....(which sounds like you may have done).
You need to make sure you go through the "RENTAL" process as opposed to the machines "purchase" option.

I love the fact that one can go to any REDBOX MACHINE and drop off your movies, It makes it soo convenient if you are in a different city to just drop them off. The price for the rentals couldnt be any better. $1 buck

I love RedBox, but unfortunately, this past weekend, someone used the device on the Redbox machine to 'steal' my credit card number after I left. They successfully spent $500 @ itunes using my number. The card Company said they have seen this happening more and more and Redbox is just one place they can do it. Gas stations are another way. The device is put into the swipe slot, and the last card number is copied and they have it! I don't want to stop using Redbox, but now I'm nervous a bit.

I love redbox..Since the rescission hit i have not rented movies but with redbox i do. It's either spend 3 bucks on 1 movie or 3 bucks and 1 movie a night for three nights..or three all at once..just get them back before 9 lol..but even then if you want to keep the movie for another day it's only a dollar more..still cheaper than movie rental stores.

Watch Out

They changed their UI on their machines since last week. It seems deliberate because the second to last step, where you enter your code, was suddenly missing. And once the machine says "your movie is vending" there's not a cancel button or anything you can do about it. Furthermore, the customer service is about what you would expect for a dollar - "sorry sir, the button is there clear as day." Thanks for nothing.

Can someone tell me how the code works? Will I enter the code number in at the rental machine or online? My wife has used redbox several times but she does not remember it giving you and option to enter a code to get a discount or a free movie. I didn
t see the option at checkout at the redbox website either

I have been using Redbox for DVD rentals for several months, primairly if there's a DVD I may want to purchase but not sure if I or my wife would like to buy it outright. For those of you complaining about Redbox, there are some things you need to know and understand before renting a DVD. For starters, the $1.00 daily rental fee doesn't include sales tax. If your state has a sales tax, and most do, then you need to know each rental has a sales tax, just like if you went to Blockbuster. Second, if you do not return the DVD to any Redbox kiosk by 9:00 pm the next day, you are charged a second day rental of $1.00 plus sales tax. This $1.00 plus sales tax continues until you return the DVD on time or until you've kept the DVD for 25 days straight, then it's yours to keep. As for customer service concerning defective discs, or outrageous charges, I can't comment on that because I haven't had any issues with what I've rented from Redbox. This is a great way to rent DVD's on the cheap, and with popcorn from the local store, much cheaper than the movies.

I have been using redbox for over a year and yes i have had problems with discs freezing or skipping half way through all i did was call the redbox 800 number and they gave me a rental code and then took that movie out of circulation when i returned it!

I do have one question...i see people have made comments about getting a rental code every monday now im really bad at checking emails but ive just gone back and seen nothing about a free rental code!

everyone is a little greedy, be you American or Martian. greed doesn't have to be purely selfish in motive. how else would we progress as a society if we didn't pursue a "little greed"? come on, that's just silly.

OK WE RENTED FROM RED BOX BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE BRAGGED ABOUT IT AND NO LATE FEES BLAH BLAH BLAH,. WELL WE RENTED 3 MOVIES USED 3 DIFFERENT CODES THAT WERE GIVEN TO US AND SWIPED 3 DIFFERENT CARDS... WELL WE FORGOT TO TAKE THEM BACK THE NEXT DAY AND 2 DAYS LATER RETURNED THE DVD'S. ALL 3 CARDS WERE CHARGED WITH FEES AND MORE FEES. THIS IS A TRUE SCAM. I WILL NEVER EVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN. YEA BLOCKBUSTER OR HOLLYWOOD VIDEO IS $5 A MOVIE BUT MUCH NICER EMPLOYEES AND NO ACTUAL LATE FEES NO HIDDEN FEES EITHER.

i THOUGHT REDBOX WAS A GOOD DEAL TOO. UNTIL I NOTICED THAT I WAS CHARGED 36.00 FOR A MOVIE I RETURNED. THATS NOT EVEN A DOLLAR A DAY! WHEN YOU CALL ABOUT IT THEY BASICALLY CALL YOU A LIAR. IM RETURNING TO BLOCKBUSTER.

Well I have had a few minor problems with RedBox and they always have credited my account and made it right so mabey someone rented a movie without you knowing it.

when I had a problem with a mov the gave me a fre code and creditd my account so people dont let this one scare, scare you away from RedBox.

Guest's picture

I love Red Box and use them on a regular basis.

Just be careful because their is a hidden cost to using these machines. This hidden cost is the increase in supermarket visits where most Redbox machines are located.

When you rent a $1 video out of a Redbox machine you have committed yourself to a return visit to the supermarket where the Redbox machine is located.

In essence, cheap videos act like a loss leader to lure you back to the supermarket, where you’re inclined to make impulse purchases.

In fact, 40% to 50% of all our supermarket purchases are impulse buys! The more trips you make to the supermarket the more impulse purchases you make.

Absolutely rip off, misleading! Their customer service is HORRIBLE! They are trained to say nothing but NO! You think it is convenient,a better deal etc. They say first "there is absolutely no late fee" then they add "we will charge you for each night!" They almost have only 10 movies available and you have to wait for a long time if you have someone in front of you! You can watch the available movies in almost every channel on tv. Why would anyone want to rent a movie that may be available? And then hurry up and return it. You can get so many of them from Netflix, Blockbuster in 1-2 days on-line, or just drive to video store! Do they put only one copy of the movie that they are always out off stock, no matter what time you go?

EVERYONE...enjoy these $1 rental kiosks while they last! Redbox offering rentals for $1 p/day is undermining the movie studios, and they aren't having it! Once all the legal stuff fleshes itself out either Redbox will up their prices to that of Blockbuster or they simply will have to take down their machines. MARK MY WORDS!

The codes are getting further and fewer between nowadays. It used to be that they would send out two per week. Now it is one per week... but not every week.

My wife called Redbox today and she got through after 5 minutes. Redbox said that the DVD I returned had jammed. The technician released it on Tuesday and that is when it registered as returned. The $2 will be refunded. Good, that means we'll be renting a movie tonight. However, I never can get the codes to work for me.

Guest's picture

Most people are late to return movies so they end up paying $1 per day after the first day. That's how Redbox makes money by offering free codes. They want you to use them. People who remember to return them the day after are the ones who benefit from the codes.

When I tried to log on to ours notebook, a message saying “there are not sufficient resources to load” my account with the default something-or-other came up. The message had a timer that was going to close the box, and then when it closed it would not log me on. I couldn’t turn it off normally so I cut the power. When I turned it back on I logged on fine?

I have been using redbox for ever and some machines have the code for 1 free DVD outside the box on comercial papers with names of new upcomming DVDs and when I used it it work so we got our DVD rental free then keep going for more some times I keep the movie 2. 3 days and I keep cheking for the charge and it always was fine, people all you have to do it's be patient wait to confirm you movie was returned right, and the codes work one time in every card so everybody can used the same code so here is mine "breakroom" as soon as I get more I'll be posting them here so please post yours too healp the people man, help the people is the economy falt haha we don't need excuses we love it and that's it.

Guest's picture
Lois

Step 1. You need a debid, credit, or prepaid card( that's the safe way for no over chr)
Step 2. Make sure the machine is on home page
Step 3. Push rent DVD
Step 4. Chose if you want to check DVD alpha or by category
Step 5. Chose your movie then at the bottom press add DVD
Step 6. If you have a promotion code like "red box" or "breakroom" press the redeam code at the bottom of the scren
Step 7. If your adding more movies then press add a DVD if you have more than one credit/ debit card don't add another just press check out
Step 8. Pass the card trow slot and will give you a $0 and will proccess just wait
Step 9. Movie will come out trow your right
If you have another credic/debit/prepaid card start over using the same code now remember you can use the same code ones on every single card you have but you can only use 1 promo code at the time so it's still good even if you only have one card keep cheking for codes you'll have to go to return it the next day before 9 so always remember so you won't be late be there before 8 pm remember thinghs happen and if the machine is broken or stops working in the middle of tracsation or it's out of service becouse their working on it, it will give you a chance to call and work it out, they will probably tell you to live it in the emergency box, that's only when you have talk to them first.
Returnig a DVD
Step 1. Always go with enoph time ( incase there is somebody in line and will take extra long so if you go 5 till 9 you will be late some times once late thell over charge you it's just like the phone company if you make a long distance call thell keep charging you eventhow you haven't used the phone
Step 2. Be very patient
Step 3.Make sure the scren it's on top menu
Step 4. Press the return DVD
Step 5. Make sure the dvd inside is facing the right way then put it in facing the machine (facing the inside) the code shoul go in, you should see the silver part of the disc,
Step 6.Put the DVD in your right from where the DVD came out
Step 7. And the most important wait, wait, wait eventhow the DVD may be wrong the machine will adept it but that does not mean at all your done if the DVD is the wrong side in a minut the movie will come out and if you live thinking it adept it you'll be charge for that movie due to not everybody is honest and the next person after you will, will take it home and redbox will say you never return it when you did return it to the location but not to the inside of the box,( get it) so a lot of people had gone trow this with out knowing why the charge then they get mad when they don't wait and put atention on what they are doing, the machine will tell you if it was inserted the wrong way so just put it the right way
Step 8.wait again for the machine to tell you your DVD was successfully return
Step 9. And final put the machine in main scren
Now you can walk away confident there will be no extra charges unless your late but that's why you have been so patient and where there on time to avoid all crazy things may pass your way like some body that thinks he's the only one that can use the machine and has been there for 1 hour in that case if your only returning a DVD don't be afraid ask for a chance they actually always let you well
Welcome to the crew of redbox

Step 3.

I returned a movie to the local redbox, but it never registered and I got a $27 charge for "keeping" the video. I called and emailed customer service and they asked a bunch of questions which I had answered about 3 times at that point, then sent an email saying they'll investigate the physical box and get back in 10-15 days.... that was almost 3 months ago. I frankly forgot, because I don't sit and wait for this stuff, but I just sent another email about this matter. Another time, my wife tried to return a video for me, and the machine was down for 3 days. I got charged $7, and even after calling, they never returned the fee. I thought this was a great alternative to Blockbuster but not if I keep getting ripped off. I've lost more with Redbox than I ever did with Blockbuster's late fees. Poor customer service, bad hardware .... They get an F.

I rented a movie from Redbox for $1 was charged $1, returned the movie ON TIME, then five days later I was charged $20, then ever 3 days I was charged another $20 to where my account was overdrawn $220, I called them and was on conference with my bank and REDBOX, they told my bank that they did not charge me anything, and my bank told them they did, and faxed proof, so they credited my account back for those charges, then the very next day they did it again, and now i'm having to do this all over again, and may be suing Redbox, for illegally removing funds from my account.

I had never even heard of REDBOX until I found one of the codes online. Our family uses the kiosk regularly with or without the codes....although I am always on the lookout for codes =)
I think they make enough money off of the new customers that this brings because of the ease of use and convenience. Make no mistake...REDBOX publishes these free codes for a reason and they make them avaliable to everyone. They could just give out single use codes but now how profitable would that be. I myself keep the movies for 2 sometimes 3 days so that all 8 of my in house family members can watch them. And everyone's petty accusations about ripping them off.... you must be so set that you couldnt use a freebie now and then but some of us save where we can to make ends meet and their generosity at making that possible once a week is absolutely awesome.

Of the 14 codes you posted, only the top two worked, and that was a while ago. The others seem to be worthless here in Illinois.

Where did you get those codes from?

Guest's picture

some prepaid credit cards still work on redbox, and wont charge your card until you return the movie. simply use the prepaid card on gas or whatever you want, and when the 25 days or wahtever is up and redbox goes to charge the movie to your card, oops, too late.

i can account for binder and binders of dvd's. i know for a fact that redbox pays a huge fine in comparison to the cost of the dvd in retail for the right to rent these out, and when they lose them, boy does it hurt. not only that, they dont get the rental fee!

yes we have three redboxes here and more coming and i love them and yes i use the free codes every chance i get one but i also buy alot of movies from it and rent alot, its one of the greatest things ever came out and we all should appreciate redbox and their owners and thanks for free codes a times, sometimes i may have one or tww codes but i rent like four movies so they making money plus at times i forget codes at home and just buy them and sometimes last and they make even more.but no matter what i called and spoke to redbox in details and thnaked them and made suggestions they are very nice and thanked me for suggestions.anyone have any iedals they said email them or call them and they be happy to listen and pass them on,now that is excellent customer service.i have rented over 100 dvds maybe 20 was free and never charged later on for not returning them or for keeping them longer than i did.i feel the site is very honest and if they do make a mistake they will correct it.today i had two movies that froze a little i called and he emailed me three more free movie codes, that was very nice of him and the movies are watched by many people so they cant help it if damaged but they will remove movie once you return it if you call and tell them.i support redbox and their use of their codes by everyone it helps their sales rise alot.im hoping redbox does away with codes and start putting free movies on our accounts if they want us to have them, this will stop some of the ones that never pay a dime.i also suggested a prepaid redbox gift card, that you could apply for and load or load by credit card but not by cash.well hope you all enjoy redbox cause i sure do.

This article is stupid. Who the heck will wind up paying 4-5 dollars at Blockbuster, while there is one better deal at Redbox? I thought we were in a bad economy. And what else? Why would you want a movie for a week??? All you do is watch the movie in a day!!! It's not like you want to watch it all week. And nobody can tell me that there is a movie that lasts all week. The good thing about Redbox is you can rent the movie, watch it, and send it back the next day. AND HEY, if you liked the movie, you can buy it! I think this article is absurd, to me. In My opinion. Redbox is really worth a dollar of a deal. If I had a hundred dollars, I WOULD rent 100 movies, at Redbox. :D

Guest's picture
Guestlolatthesepeople

it was even on the news that redbox knows people share the codes and redbox is okay with it. it gets more customers. then if you have no codes left to use you'll rent and pay. its only a dollar a day and a lot of people try to make it to return the movie the next morning before work but dont have time or dont care because its only a dollar, thus redbox makes money right there.
even if you get one free rental you may rent another movie at the same time like i do. it brings them business. they give out free codes like its nothing because its like a crack dealer giving out a free taste of his crack. they hook you. its like samples at the store on saturday mornings. taste the cookies, you like them, you'll buy them or spread the word about their taste.

I really don't think that Redbox is ignorant of what is going on here. If this was a huge problem for them not making a good profit, then they wouldn't be promoting codes. They have analysts that monitor transactions and promo code uses. Someone typed that the money comes from late fees. Very true. I work at the library and there are tons of people who do not return on time b/c of illness, time constraints or forgetting. say 500,000 people forget their movies for 2 days. it all adds up.

Lately, the only issue I have had with Redbox not working is when I rent the DVS's especially this last week, I rented 5 movies and all but 1 didn't work properly, I mean the DVD's were highly scratched and I couldn't view the movies wihtout skipping or the DVD locking up, (I even took my new DVD player back to walmart and returned for another one) and still the movies didn't play right, oh well, a string of bad luck with the last 4 rented, however, I will still rent..... I asked for a credit, lets see what happens.

The free codes will give you one day of free rental not a week or month etc. As far as returning the dvds. Make sure you watch the screen say returned successfully. If you enter you email addy. you should most likely get a confirmation of returning each dvd and what the total charge of that dvd will be. People that are being charged outrageous fees for un returned movies and the likes should check into the people who are operating the machines It sounds like the company who operates the card swipe is the culprit or the people owning the machines. Remember when you call a 800# you are probably talking to an outside service from the company!!! If you want to dispute a charge try your bank and let them know. Instead of criping on blog sites. I have never had the amount rented for the dvd taken out daily. Only once the movie was returned was my account debited. The prices have gone up where I live though to $2 for the 1st night and $1 for each additional night. Also, people do you know you can return the movies to any redbox location? Hell where I live there are prolly 25-30 redbox's in a 5 mile radius. So far the thing is great to use. Hell blockbuster has started putting machines up too in various locations where I live. I guess they are feeling the pinch to since the closed how many stores nationwide?

As far as the free codes- It's marketing. To get people to the kiosks and away from their competitors. Its the same tatics Lowes and Home Depot use in their advertising & Marketing ploys. The codes are either Prepaid by redbox to the machine owners based on an average sales % or the machine owners are reimbursed by redbox for the amounth of promo codes used vs sales.

Mr. O

To those of you who think using the codes provided is stealing, YOU ARE IDIOTS. Ever get a coupon in the mail and use it to get something for free? Well it's not stealing, especially when Red Box says to share the code with your friends.

I knew it was coming but Red Box has changed the Monday codes. They are now only sent out by text once a month, and they can only be used once.

Has anyone been unable to return their DVD because the box is full? I've been using Redbox for over a year now. I got my DVD yesterday with my free code. When I try to return today, it says they are not accepting returns because the machine is full. Then it says to try later or try another machine. I'm not going to drive all over town, wasting gas, looking for another Redbox. I called the Redbox customer service line. The rep said they'd notify a technician, and then said that I would be charged $1 for tomorrow's rental, but that they'd comp me two rentals for the future. NO. Finally they gave in to refund the $1.

Could this be a way to force people to pay--by refusing to accept the return?

I rented a few times always returning by the first or second day. Then my credit card statement came and I was charged $25. for what I believe is an unreturned rental. I tried calling and never got an answer. Emailed them and they want to know "what DVD I am refering to". I have no idea? What DVD are they refering to? - I returned them all. Looks like they got me for $25. and I won't ever use them again. Since you can't prove you returned a disk I wouldn't use them!!! Terrible Company!!

There's never a line and no one's paying for them. Yeah that sounds like a great business idea to me!

Sheesh.

I have seen numerous people have complained on here about their disc being scratched. I have rented over 30+ movies from redbox within the past year and have had problems with a good number of them skipping and not playing. Since having this problem, I have also noticed that two of my dvd players has completely stop playing movies.

I contacted RED Box on yesterday after renting a new release, and having a problem with a fresh disk without one finger print, smudge or scratch on it, skip then eventually stop playing in my last working dvd player.

After removing the disk to check for scratches, then reinserting it into my dvd player, the disk would not play at all!

To make sure it was not my dvd player, I checked several of my personally owned dvd's and did not have a problem with any of them playing back.

I called red box and the rude customer service rep who repeatedly talked over me and tried not let me complete my story informed me that, "Redbox receive their movies from the same manufacture as blockbuster and other places therefore, it cannot be their movies.

I later informed her, I rented "The vampires assistant and The informant" from blockbuster the day before and had no problems with the dvd's.

She then offered me 3 free codes and I told her I didn not want them. I was not trying to get anything from them, I just wanted to make them aware that something is wrong with "THEIR" dvd's.

I also informed her that I believe its that barcode sticker they place in the middle. She assured me that was not the problem.

IDK, because the only difference between their dvd's, blockbusters's or the one's I have purchased is that crazy barcode sticker that's often not correctly centered.

Have anyone had any problems with their dvd players like me since the rep informed me I was "the ONLY" person to ever have this particular problem, yet I see other comments on this page about dvd quality?

PROS:
-convenience
-only "$1 a day"
-can reserve a rental online
-no contract/agreement (like Netflix with $9/month)

Cons
-$1 for every day the rental is not back at the Kiosk(not a "late" fee but mine as well should be!!)
-long lines at kiosks (waiting for others to sift through the selection is a pain!!)
-online reservations CAN'T be cancelled (if you rented online and didn't pick it up, 2 bad!! You paid for it and you CANT cancel b4 hand, even if you didn't intend on picking it up!! )
-not truly $1/day or 24hr rental (you could rent something at 1am and it's still due by 9PM (only 15 hours) b4 you're charged for "another day")
-somewhat limited selection
-most don't have blu-ray
-risky machines

Wow that was easy. Seems there really is no perfect movie rental process. They all kinda suck, but I think I'll stick with Redbox for the moment.

I love Redbox.. my family went for years without renting movies bc I refuse to pay the high price for renting one movie. At A Boy Redbox IMO, the movie companies are making money out the wahoo, and paying ridiculously absurd amounts of money to people who can memorize a line and put on a show...PLEASE!!! They are just greedy, and afraid of possibly losing a dollar! We started renting them through Redbox last year, and it is convenient. Sometimes a headache when the machines mess up, but I have yet to have customer service not give me a free code or several to make it right. They are always very friendly.

How are you getting the free codes every week.. I get those emails sometimes twice a week, and they never contain a free code. Am I just missing something?

I think the marketing is genius, and giving the free codes is great to, generating traffic, people don't always take the movies back on the same day, and McDonald's is ALWAYS giving away free video rentals. Telling us to share with friends? That generates free marketing! What a wonderful way to rent. I am only wishing they had more movies to choose from. Blockbuster and Hollywood Video are threatened now. They need to generate ways to keep their clientele, what with RB, and Netflix pushing their way through to keep customers out of their stores. Great Job Red Box!!

I usually don't post on things like this, but I see a bunch of dumb comments, so I will.

If you're stilling getting charged after you returned the disc, then you did it wrong. A lot of people don't pay attention to that sticker on the machine and they put the disc in the wrong way, then turn around and leave. The machine will spit that disc back out in a minute or so, and unless someone else returns it properly, it will be stolen and you will be charged. Also, many people put the disc in upside down in the case; The machine can't scan the code on it, so the DVD isn't returned.

Simply pay attention.

Also, the $1 a day isn't a late fee--you choose how long you keep it. You knew what you were getting into. Don't rent it if you can't return it.

- You have to stand in a line? And that is Red Box's fault how? Come later/earlier.

Sheesh people. No matter what is done, people just can't be happy....

...except me. The vending machine near me has dozens of DVDs, and I rent from it constantly.

I signed up for the Redbox codes text messages and I only get one a month. Plus there isn't a Redbox convenient to my house. Netflix delivers directly to my door and the cost is not too much if you watch a lot of movies like I do.

All the people who say it's "stealing" you're wrong. why would RedBox GIVE the codes to you weekly if they didn't want you to use them? And it is nice to get a FREE movie every now and then, a dollar is a dollar.. who cares if you get it for free? it doesn't matter if you're a millionaire, it's a DOLLAR for God sake.. like i said- redbox wouldnt give you the codes if they weren't trying to get you to use them.

Go to your local library and you can rent DVD's for up to two weeks for FREE.

This even includes many TV shows and even HBO specials (saw full John Adams for $0).

Why ever pay any of these places again or waste time looking up "free" codes when all they are hoping is that you don't return it the next day so they can charge you addtional rental fees?

It's just like people who refuse to join credit unions then complain about bank fees.

I used the dvdonme promo code last week when renting a movie at redbox. It worked but I rented a movie last night and this morning checked my bank statement, I had been charged for 2 movies that I did not rent. I never had this problem until I used the promo code. I just emailed red-box and we'll see what they say.
