I'm pretty sure I spent $0 on clothing last year. Not on purpose ... I just didn't need any new clothes. I tend to wear the same clothes over and over until they get worn out.

I think you'd have to be a girl to appreciate the task that was done here. Not only did she just spend $20 for the whole year on clothes, but she wore the SAME thing everyday. It's one thing to try to not buy anything new, and try to wear the things we already have in our closet, which honestly would be able to sustain us for a year, but we'll never admit it. But to wear the same thing everyday for a year, to make a statement, that's pretty darn cool.

for sure, society tells women we need to "dress well" whereas my bf's daily outfit consists of: jeans + one of the following, and in no particular order of preference:

- white undershirt he wears like a regular tshirt

- tshirt given to him as a gift

- free promotional tshirts i used to get when i was working in TV (tv shows/radio/etc) -- and not even cool shows.  we're talking wheel of fortune tshirts...

To be fair though, I wonder if there's something for men that is on par with girls and fashion. Cars and gadgets maybe? I remember many conversations w/guy friends, that will go something like this:

"do you know Mike?"

"white civic?"

Where girls' conversations would more likely go something like

"do you know Mike?"

"thin, funky hair, kinda awkward?"

Personally, I would totally notice. I usually change 2x a day, 3 if I'm going out. Work, lounging around & some less stuffy clothes to go out in. It is not a hassle, it is something I chose to do. More power to her for her experiment,  I couldn't nor would I want to do it. I can't buy into the whole Fashion is the enemy and oppressor bs either. Unless you are a certain religion, wear a uniform to work or school, or enslaved, you don't HAVE to wear anything you don't want to wear.

If I HAD to wear the same thing for a year, it would be a black t-shirt, jeans, and low-top Converse Chucks.

I can't leave this comment without noting the dress thing is a very pre-YouTube "look at me" sort of blog.

does it have to be?  well i'm pretty sure that i'm safe to assume that while you two were dating, your wife tried to look extra spiffy for you, and while you didn't fall in love with her because of that, i'm sure it made her that much more interesting to look at.  it's a fact.  girls in cute outfits are nice to look at.
