From the "only funny because it's true" file, I present to you the straight dope on how to cut down your debt, coiurtesy of Saturday Night Live. Read the full SNL skit transcript, or check out these particularly funny snippets:

Wife: "If you don't have any money you should not buy anything... hmmm... sounds interesting."

Husband (rolling his eyes): "Sounds confusing."

Wife: "There's a whole section here on how to buy expensive things using money you save."

Husband (really skeptical now): "And where would you get this 'saved money?'"

Wife: "What if I want something and I don't have any money?"

Financial Advisor: "You don't buy it."

Husband (confused): "Let's say I don't have enough money to buy something. Should I buy it anyway?"

Financial Advisor (patronizing): "Nooooooo."

5 points to the first person who can identify this quote:

When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter."
