And when that time comes, you'll have two options: fix it yourself, or get someone else to fix it. The latter usually costs money — unless you happen to know someone who'll help for free — and yet, so many of these repairs require minimal skill and effort to get the job done. Here are 10 of the easiest household repairs every frugal person should have under their belt.

1. Changing a Faucet Washer

Drip. Drip. Drip. It can be the annoying sound that wakes you up at night, or one that constantly bothers you in the kitchen. You have a leaky faucet. The most likely cause of that leak is a worn washer, and they are very easy to replace. No need to call a plumber, because all you need are a few basic tools and a new washer.

Turn off the water supply, remove the faucet cap, unscrew the handle, and unscrew the nut. You'll reveal the valve stem, which you remove, and voila… the old washer is revealed. Replace it, and then do everything in reverse. Here's an instructional video that explains a basic washer change in just a few minutes. You'll save water, and a lot of money on a plumbing charge.

2. Replacing a Furnace Filter

It's amazing that some people still hire someone to come and replace the filter on their furnace. This is literally a job that takes less than a minute to do, and anyone can do it. What you need to do is find the correct size of filter, which will be written somewhere on the furnace. When you have the dimensions, you can go to a hardware store for replacements or order online. Don't go for the cheapest type; you want one that traps not just dirt, but allergens and other air hazards. Remove the furnace door — this will almost always deactivate the furnace, but if not, turn it off at the switch. Slide out the dirty filter, and replace it with the new one, making sure to insert it with the arrows pointing in the direction of the airflow. Then, close up the furnace. It's that easy.

3. Unblocking a Drain

So, simple blocked drains on sinks are easy to unclog. Get out the plunger, and go to work. It should clear in seconds. If it doesn't, don't run to the phone to call a plumber, because 99% of the time, you can do this yourself. There are various tools available for this, including snakes, liquid plumber, and even wire coathangers. In all instances, most of these clogs or blocks are caused by old hair, debris, grease, and food. So, you may want to invest in a pair of rubber gloves. Here are a few videos showing some basic drain unblocking; clearing the trap; using a snake. (See also: 10 Really Easy Ways to Unclog Drains)

4. Painting a Room

Some home repair jobs can actually be a lot of fun, and this is one of them. Painting a room, especially a kid's room or playroom, can be creative and fulfilling. But whether it's a bedroom, living room, or kitchen, you'll need some basic tools and a few tips before you start. Get a variety of paintbrushes; you'll need some for small, fiddly areas, others for big areas like doors and walls. You will also need a paint roller and tray, or a paint pad. Plus, dropcloths, painter's tape (Frog is excellent), paint, a stepladder, and some clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Make sure to block off any areas you don't want paint to land on — including the ceiling lines, window trim, door frames, and baseboards. Paint around those areas first, then fill in with your roller or paint pad. You will usually need to do two coats, and maybe more if a light color is going over a dark one.

5. Changing the Locks

Walk down the Locks and Doors aisle in any hardware store and you'll be greeted with a plethora of different options. You have so many choices here, and it takes very little time to change out a door lock. (However, installing a lock from scratch is a lot more involved). The hardest part of all this is making sure you get the right replacement lock to fit the one you're swapping out. Take a look at it first, remove it, take photos, write down model numbers, etc. Take that information to the hardware store, and they can guide you to the correct one. Then, with just a few screws, and you're good to go.

6. Sewing

Never let it be said that sewing is a hobby. It's something we should all know how to do, because it can save us a lot of money on clothing and other repairs around the home. From torn curtains and sofa cushions, to holes in jeans and shirts, some basic sewing repair skills are essential. You don't need to be a master tailor, but having a grasp on the basics — such as sewing on a button, darning a sock, or patching jeans — will really help you out in the long run. You don't even need a sewing machine. Just a very simple sewing kit will do, for under $10.

7. Unclogging the Garbage Disposal

You flick the switch, and you hear one of two things: complete silence, or a faint buzz. Either way, it's not the growl of the motor and the blades that you were expecting. When this happens, your garbage disposal is clogged. You may be tempted to call a plumber, who will either fix it for you, or suggest an often unnecessary replacement. But this is a job you can do easily yourself.

First, it may have stopped working due to a jam. Unplug it, and reach in there to see if something is stopping the blades. Fish it out, if that's the case. If not, you will still want to go underneath the disposal and turn the blades using the Allen wrench that came with it. After turning it several times, you should feel the blades loosen. Hit the reset button on the base, plug it back in, and hit the main switch. Your disposal should now be working again.

8. Replacing Screen Door Mesh

So many people I have talked to, including family members, have bought a new screen door when the mesh has ripped or worn out. This is a huge waste of money. If the screen door itself is in great condition, you only need to replace the mesh, and that's a job most people can do in less than 30 minutes. You'll need to buy replacement screen mesh and a screen door spline roller. The pair will cost between $20-$30 depending on the store you buy them at, and the type of screen mesh you opt for. The hardest part is actually removing the screen door from the track. Once that's done, you remove the old rubber cord and mesh, place the new one on the door, roll in the new rubber cord, and trim the excess. It's that simple.

9. Recaulking Sinks and Tubs

Over time, the caulk surrounding bathtubs and sinks will need to be replaced. Sometimes it gets discolored or moldy. Sometimes, it can actually begin to peel away, and start causing issues with leaks or water damage. In that case, you need to replace the caulk. And the good news is, it's really easy.

All you need is a caulking gun and caulk, which comes in a wide variety of colors and types. Talk to an expert in your hardware store about your needs. Clear out any of the old caulk, which can be done using a Stanley knife and a scraping tool. Make sure the area to be caulked is clean and dry. Then, apply a thin bead using the caulking gun, and with a wet finger, swipe away the excess to form a beautiful new seal.

10. Banishing Squeaks

Squeaky doors, windows, stairs, and floorboards are more an annoyance than anything else, but they don't have to be. They are usually a very simple fix. For squeaking doors and windows, some spray lube, WD-40, or white lithium grease will usually eliminate the problem. If none of those are available, even a little olive oil or Vaseline can work. You are simply looking for a way to reduce the friction. For floorboards, it's a little more involved. Most of the time, it happens because the floorboard has raised up from the main floor joists or the subfloor. In that case, a shim can eliminate that gap, and thus, the squeak.

What other home repair should every frugal person learn? And you have to toil away to cover the cost of your too-small dwelling that seems to always need the Super to fix something. But let's think happy thoughts. What would you do, in a perfect world, if you paid less rent? Here are eight smart and fun things to do with all that extra cash in your pocket at the end of the month.

1. Take Classes to Learn a New Skill

A few years ago, my husband spent an incredible amount of money on helicopter lessons, because learning how to fly an aircraft has been a pursuit of his since his Navy days. Okay, I get it, people have dreams and all, but I also think that if you're not rich, like we aren't, those lessons should somehow pay for themselves or earn income down the road. But they didn't, and still haven't.

Thus, let my disdain be a lesson in and of itself: If you want to use your leftover rent money to take a class, I highly recommend it, but you should have a purpose, an endgame. For instance, if you'd like to take a pottery class, that's all well and good, but are you doing it so you can make everybody ashtrays and vases for Christmas, or are you visualizing the potential of becoming proficient enough to sell the items or market yourself as a potter? The choice certainly is yours, but you'd be doing yourself a solid by trying to monetize your new skill, whatever it may be.

2. Upgrade Your Vehicle to Something You Want

There are upsides and downsides to buying a car brand new or used, which should be considered when deciding on a vehicle. But many times we get so lost in the details that we don't end up with the vehicle we actually want. If you're in this situation — driving a car or truck that gets you from A to B without much joie de vivre — maybe it's time to upgrade. It'd be a real possibility if you paid less rent.

3. Enhance Your Work Wardrobe

No matter where you work, somebody is judging you on your professional attire. And whether or not you want to believe it, the way you look plays a part in your income potential. It's not fair, no, because dressing "well" is a relative concept, but it behooves you to be on the trendier, more fitted side of the spectrum. If you're not feeling as confident as you'd like when you walk into the office, use your rent surplus to upgrade and enhance your wardrobe. Just a few key pieces — a fitted suit and shinier shoes — can do the trick.

4. Pursue a Healthier Lifestyle

It's true that nobody really needs to pay for exercise. You can do that on your own, without a trainer or even a gym. However, having the ability to work out by your own motivation and wanting to do it are two different things. I'm a self-motivator in all other aspects of my life, but when it comes to exercise, I need help. Which is why I don't feel bad paying for my gym membership or my personal trainer because I'm using these services to their full potential and seeing results (which is necessary for these expenditures to make sense).

If you're like me, there's no harm in using what you would have paid in rent to better your health and your body by getting help along the way.

5. Save for That Always-Out-of-Reach Vacation

If you find yourself with the good fortune of paying less rent, you probably won't be able to pack your bags and jet off on your dream vacation right away. With about a half a year of saving — depending on how much you were able to shave off your rent — that always out-of-reach vacation will be much easier to grasp.

6. Establish a New Side Gig or Small Business

With the sharing economy in full effect — thanks to services like Airbnb, DogVacay, and Uber — you can start earning income with little to no investment. But not all side gigs or small businesses are that easy. If you have an idea in mind that requires start-up capital, use your rent surplus to fund this endeavor.

In fact, I would say that this opportunity trumps everything else on this list so far. Adding another source of income can help you get to those other things faster, but establishing a new revenue generator should always be a priority. Funnel Cash Into Your Home-Buying Fund

Nobody will ever convince me that renting is better than owning your own home — not even the Wall Street Journal. Because why pay someone else to live in their house when you can pay yourself to live in your own house? Get out of that rental prison quicker by establishing a down-payment savings account and sending your rental savings there every month. Stick to it, and you'll have enough for a down payment before you know it.

8. Invest in Yourself

Go back to school, pursue a higher paying job, learn a new language — do something that will make you a better person and a more attractive employee. The best investment you can make is in yourself. Unless, of course, you have a hot tip on stocks; then I'll stand corrected.

What are some of the smart and fun things you would do if you paid less rent? Take a look at some of these frugal versus cheap examples, and let me know if you agree in the comments below.

1. Ordering Wisely at Restaurants vs. Eating Like a King and Skimping on the Tip

It's perfectly acceptable to be frugal at a restaurant by ordering less expensive dishes or appetizers to serve as your main meal. It's completely out of line, however, to order the most expensive dishes on the menu and then skimp on the tip; if you can afford a $26 steak and a glass of scotch, you can afford at least a 15% tip for decent service (more if the service was above and beyond). I've seen it many times over, and there's a special name for cheap people like that.

Likewise, don't be the jerk that goes out to eat with friends and doesn't order anything but then picks off other people's plates. That's a good way to get your hand stabbed with a fork if you're dining with me.

2. New Underwear/Sneakers vs. Thrift Shop Underwear/Sneakers

Underwear and sneakers aren't exactly cheap these days, especially if you want halfway decent pairs. I try to shop for these items thoughtfully, keeping in mind that the quality, often more expensive items will probably last longer. I also try to find any deals and coupons that I can use before I can go shopping to offset the higher cost. Conversely, shopping at thrift shops for these particular items isn't just cheap, it's downright disgusting. It doesn't matter your financial state: you should buy new, clean underwear — always. And with shoes, you run the risk of having to replace them more often because they've already been through the ringer.

3. Turning One Two-Ply Toilet Paper Roll Into Two One-Ply Rolls

I really hate buying toilet paper because it's the epitome of flushing money down the drain — but it's one of those necessary evils that I just have to suck up and deal with. As much as I hate it though, I still buy fairly high-end TP because my bum deserves it. Because of my penchant for quilted softness then, I always buy in bulk with a coupon or discount from a savings app. That's the frugal way to do it. The cheap alternative — and, honestly, I don't know if it gets any cheaper than this — is to buy bottom-of-the-barrel two-ply paper so you can create two one-ply rolls. I feel like this practice is a recipe for a lifetime of bachelorhood — and deservedly so.

4. Buying Day-Old/Clearance Food vs. Freeganism

I've purchase clearance food items from the grocery store in the past, and I've recommended it in some of my articles. I've also visited secondhand food stores, like the Wonder Bread Bake Shop outlet and the Pepperidge Farm Outlet Center to score deals on perfectly edible food that just may not be as fresh-from-the-oven as I would prefer. Ya take the good, ya take the bad. But one thing I will never do — at least while I can afford to buy food — is adopt a life of freeganism, which is the practice of eating discarded food, ie. food from trash cans and dumpsters. The cheapness level here is Code Red, and its grossness is up there with the thrift shop underwear.

5. Making a Homemade Gift vs. Regifting an Arbitrary Gift

The holidays are a hard time financially for many people, and it's perfectly okay to be frugal when deciding on gifts. If you can't afford to buy presents, use your resources to make gifts that recipients' will appreciate because of the thought you put into it. Admittedly I like receiving "things," but I've never received a handmade gift that I didn't love. Regifting is okay too — if it's done properly.

If you plan to regift, take a couple things into consideration:

The regift should never go back to the person that gave it to you originally.

The regift should be thoughtfully gifted.

If you're regifting a gift just to give somebody something for the purpose of giving somebody something, that's not only cheap, but it's terribly rude. (And if you ever do it to me, I will totally judge for it forever.)

6. Watering Down Liquid Soaps and Shampoos to Make It Go Further

How much money are you saving by watering down your shampoos and liquid soaps? Like 30 cents? I'll give you 30 cents if I can just wash my hands at your house with full-strength soap that I know is cleaning me. To avoid being a cheapskate in this regard, buy in bulk, find coupons and discounts, and look for store brands instead of higher-priced name brands.

7. Buying Inexpensive Permanent Dishes vs. Rewashing Plasticware

I've purchased full sets of dishes on clearance at Target for $16 in the past, which have lasted me many years. Which is why I'm always surprised at people who strictly buy plastic plates, cups, and utensils (which are meant to be disposable), and wash and rewash them like they're acceptable adult dining ware. Eventually these plastic farces will melt, crack, and otherwise end up in the trash. So while you think you're saving money in the short-term (by being cheap), you're actually spending more in the long-run than you would if you just bought grown-up dishes.

8. Enjoying Free Refreshments vs. Stuffing Your Pockets With Them

If you're attending an event where free refreshments will be available, it's absolutely fine and frugal to decide to make your meal from whatever's available while you're there. If you're a human person with food in the fridge at home and you make a decent-enough living and you're stuffing your pockets with the free food that's offered so you can make three or four meals out of it, you're cheap and you're stealing and I will totally tell security on you.

9. Paying for a Trial Online Dating Subscription vs. Trying to Trick the System by Distorting Your Contact Information

Rochelle Peachey runs the transatlantic dating site I Love Your Accent, and she sent me her take on the difference between being frugal and cheap. "Joining a dating site for just one month is frugal," she wrote. "Making a profile and writing your email address backwards or adding your Facebook details to avoid paying is cheap — especially if you are trying to meet someone across the pond."

To clarify her point, many online dating services require a subscription for users to exchange personal contact information — that's how they make their money and build the community. Without a subscription, the service will block attempts to share phone numbers, email addresses, etc. Some people, however, try to trick the system and save on subscription fees by distorting their information (like spelling out their phone number in letters and characters) to avoid paying for a membership — which probably isn't the best first impression to make when you're looking for someone to go out with you.

10. Turning One Admission Stamp Into Two With the Lick of a Wrist

I heard a story once about a guy so cheap that when he went to the club with his buddy, he made his buddy lick his wrist after paying and receiving the admission stamp to transfer the admission stamp to him. They both got into the club, but only one of them paid. That's not only super cheap, but also disgusting. One of them should definitely reevaluate that friendship — and see a doctor.

11. Researching an Inexpensive Company vs. Accepting the Lowest Bid

As a homeowner, I sometimes have to hire contractors to do work around the house, and I like to consider all my options. I use sites like Angie's List and Home Advisor to find the right person for the job while also trying to mind my budget. I don't always get the lowest price I was hoping for, but being frugal means making the right decision after considering all factors — not just saving money.

Being cheap in this situation and automatically choosing the lowest bid can go south very quickly, and more times than not it will result in a higher fee in the end because you've had to a hire a second contractor to fix the first contractor's cheap mistakes. Sometimes you have to suck it up and pay a little extra to have it done right the first time. Cheap is a huge headache in this case.

12. Pre-Gaming vs. Smuggling Alcohol Into the Venue

All you twenty-somethings out there can learn a thing or two about the difference between being frugal and being cheap from Alex Zaragoza, a spokesperson for the coupons and deals site ClickSNM.com. He brought up a good point about alcohol etiquette when going out. "Having drinks at home before going out at night is frugal," he says. "Smuggling your own alcohol to a bar is cheap." You've seen it, I've seen it, and it's embarrassing for all of us every time.

What are some other instances that tell the difference between being frugal and being cheap? But it's also possible to get duped into believing you're saving when you are really not. (See also: Frugal Red Herrings: Money Savers That Cost You in Other Ways)

Despite the best of intentions, frugal people can sometimes make decisions that are less-than-ideal from a long-term financial perspective… like these 10 wasteful things that frugal people do.

1. Buy in Bulk Blindly

There is no doubt you can save money over time if you buy certain items in large quantities. Common products that you use on a regular basis, such as toilet paper or cooking oil, are great candidates for bulk buying. But you need to be very careful when buying perishable food items, because anything you don't consume quickly may end up in the trash — and that's a waste. Also, it's best to avoid buying anything in bulk unless you're sure you like the product. Buying 10 boxes of laundry detergent is fine, but what if you find after the first load that it doesn't clean your clothes very well?

2. Use Coupons Unwisely

If you're frugal, it's a rush to hold that little piece of paper that allows you to buy something for 20% off. Before you go shopping, however, it's best reflect on whether it's a product you planned to purchase anyway. Remember that coupons exist solely to entice consumers to buy certain products. If you're spending money that you wouldn't otherwise spend — even if it's on a deeply discounted product — you're not saving money. The only real way to save money is to not spend it.

3. Delay Repairs

Sometimes, spending a little bit of money now can save you from a major bill down the road. If you are super-frugal you may be tempted to ignore that missing shingle on your roof or that leaky faucet. You may delay oil changes and other scheduled maintenance on your car. Though you may save money in the short term, you may end up paying more in the end when you face a massive repair on your home or car.

4. Fail to Seek Quality

The frugal person inside you never wants to spend more than you have to, but that doesn't mean you should always go after the product with the lowest price. Often, the cheapest bicycle in the store is inexpensive because it's made with lower-quality materials, and that could mean it won't hold up on that week-long mountain biking trek you have planned. If you truly want to save money, search for products that offer the best combination of quality and price. You may be better off financially if you spend more money for a product with a long lifespan than a poorly made product that will leave you disappointed.

5. Eat Badly

Eating well can sometimes be a challenge from a financial standpoint. You may feel it's cheaper to buy a couple of McDonald's cheeseburgers than to make a fresh fruit smoothie and a salad. When you don't eat well, you're putting yourself at risk for conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. So in the long run, whatever money you save by eating junk simply goes to medical bills.

The good news is that eating well can be inexpensive if you know how to go about it. Drink water instead of sugary drinks. Rely on low-cost fruits and veggies like bananas, tomatoes and cucumbers. For breakfast, enjoy a big bowl of oatmeal with raisins. You can eat healthy and save money, if you try.

6. Keep Too Much Cash in Savings

This seems counterintuitive, but ultra-frugal people can sometimes be ultra-conservative when it comes to investing, preferring to keep more money than they need in low-interest savings accounts. By doing this, they may have peace of mind, but actually are costing themselves thousands of dollars in possible financial gains.

It's definitely essential to have an emergency fund, but few financial advisors would advise keeping anything more than a year's worth of living expenses in cash accounts. Be honest with yourself about how much liquid savings you really need, and invest any extra cash in index funds. (See also: 3 Steps to Getting Started Investing With Mutual Funds)

7. Skimp on Insurance

You may be young and in shape, and don't feel the need to spend too much on health insurance. Or you may feel like it's not worth it to spend a lot of money on auto insurance because you never get into car accidents. It's okay to shop around for the best rates, but there is a danger in being under-insured. Even after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, which caps the amount people must pay for treatments, patients can be on the hook for thousands of dollars. And if you spend too little on auto or homeowner's insurance, you may find that some things aren't covered under your policies. In the long run, too little insurance could result in higher costs for you.

8. Refuse to Take a Vacation

Many frugal people look at travel as an extravagance. There's no doubt that taking a trip can be expensive, but when you absolutely refuse to take time off of work, you're wasting vacation days. And there is a growing body of evidence that suggests doing that is bad for you and for your employer.

9. Save Too Much Stuff

You save everything, because you can't bear the thought of throwing something away that still has value. Those old video games. Your record collection. All those crates of kids' clothes. You feel like you might need these things at some point, so you keep them around. But in the long run, are you really saving money? After all, all that stuff might require a bigger house, and maybe even a storage unit with a monthly payment. Real frugality should be about simplifying your life, not holding onto your old stuff.

10. Turn Your Home's Air Conditioning or Heat On and Off

It's logical to think that you should turn off the heat or air conditioning if you're not going to be home. But the reality is that turning your thermostat off and then turning it on when you get home actually uses up more energy. The best way to save money is to have a programmable thermostat that allows you to vary the temperature throughout the day without turning the heat or air conditioning off.

What other wasteful mistakes do otherwise frugal people make? But sometimes, the line gets blurred, and you can damage your good reputation without even saving any money. (See also: Are You Frugal or Cheap?)

Here are seven things that can make you look cheap, and they won't even help you save very much!

1. Buying Low Quality Products

Frugal people want great products for less. But cheap people? They'll only look at the price tag. Case in point; clothing or electronics can range in price from "way too expensive" to "there must be a reason it's so cheap." When you buy the latter, you'll soon find out that the clothing will tear easily, fade quickly, or shrink in the wash. The electronics will malfunction or break quickly. You'll end up having to replace them sooner than you would have if you'd bought a better quality item. The end result — buy cheap, buy twice. And you'll look cheap if you do.

2. Reusing Old Coffee Grounds

It may seem like a great way to save money but it's not; it's a cheap move.

Some people say that if you only remove half of the used grounds from the filter, and top up with fresh ones, you'll get a great pot of coffee for half the price. No, you won't. What you'll get is a weak pot of coffee with an unpleasant aftertaste which you'll end up throwing away. Instead of saving money, you're putting it in the garbage, or at the very least, enduring a nasty cup of coffee. Don't do it.

The same goes for teabags, too. They don't work anywhere near as well the second time around, you'll need to add in a new bag and you're back to square one.

3. Driving a Car That Always Needs Repairs

I know a few people who swear by their "trusty old banger." The trouble is, it's not that trusty. When they pull up in a car that's pouring with smoke, making a clattering sound, and basically begging to go on the scrap heap, they look really cheap.

But this is a false economy.

Instead of buying a sensible new car (and by new, I mean new to them), they insist on driving around in a car that is always in need of new parts, services and attention. And it is often a gas-guzzler that drips oil everywhere and gets terrible gas mileage. This is a cheap move and no mistake about it.

4. Eating Dramatically Expired Food

We all know that expiration dates are usually more like guidelines than strict rules. However, some people, cheap people, take that idea a little too far. Eating food that has gone well past its use by date is not only cheap and nasty, it's dangerous. These people are often spending money on over-the-counter drugs to help with bad stomach pains, nausea, and headaches. They can miss time at work, and miss other important functions; and all because they were too cheap to throw out a sad piece of food that was long past its prime.

5. Ignoring Servers and Attendants

There seems to be this notion that if you ignore people who want something from you, like a tip, then you don't have to pay them as much. There's no rapport, hence, no guilt for lowballing. Well, here's the thing. If you really cannot afford to pay people a healthy tip, you really should question eating out in the first place. But if it's simply the case that you realize you can't afford to put a decent chunk of change down, you can make up for it by being nice. Service staff have tough jobs; if you can make their lives pleasant instead of miserable, you will still be leaving the same tip. Avoiding eye-contact and being cold just makes you look cheap and mean.

And not leaving any kind of tip, ever, may save you some money but it makes you cheaper than Ebenezer Scrooge. Is your soul worth it?

6. Gorging Yourself at "All You Can Eat" Buffets

When I was a student, I was poor. Hey, that's not news, I know. But there was a place in town that offered "all you can eat curry" every Wednesday night for local college students. Needless to say, we starved ourselves all day and ate royally that evening. That, I think, is okay. But doing it now would make me look cheap. Just because a place is "all you can eat." It doesn't mean you should attempt to break a world record. Eat until you're full, and then stop. Shoving every morsel you can down your neck because "I wanna get what I paid for" makes you look really cheap.

7. Taking Advantage of Freebies

While we're on the subject of food, how many times have you seen someone grab handfuls of complimentary mints as they exit a restaurant? Or dozens of packets of ketchup from the burger joint? It's not costing you anything to grab less (well, maybe pennies if you're refilling your ketchup bottle at home… a very, very cheap move), but you look very cheap and nasty by doing it. These products are there to help you enjoy your dining experience, but abusing this privilege reflects very badly on you. Don't do it.

So, do you have any examples from your own life of people being very cheap without saving money in the process? Let us know.

This article is from Paul Michael of Wise Bread, an award-winning personal finance and credit card comparison website.
