The Upside of the Downturn: RecessionWire

ShareThis

Recession, Reschmession…. Just when you thought you’ve heard everything you could possibly take concerning today’s hottest buzz word, a brilliant website was created in its honor.  We chat with Laura Rich, one of the three brilliant female minds behind Recessionwire.com and learn why today is as good a day as any to pursue those crazy aspirations.

Laura Rich has a knack for taking the bad and making something rather inspiring out of it.  This talent is apparent on most any article featured on her website, RecessionWire.com.  Whether it’s a cheeky look at how the rest of the world dubs “recession” or a somewhat challenging case of dual income to no income – Laura and the rest of the RecessionWire gang tries to tackle it, and they do a pretty darn good job, too.

My favorite feature of the site, Lemonade Makers, offers an inside look at regular people who’ve kept chugging along, despite the downturn.  This past week presented a media and communications guru who developed a dream of making martial arts instructional DVD’s (something he probably would not have been motivated to do if he still had his job.)  It is the perfect case of “down-and-out” turned “what have I been waiting for?”

Looking for even more positive news in this less-than-cheery economic climate?  RecessionWire doesn’t lie, and its content really does focus largely on the recession.  But for those of us who have been out of denial for some time, it’s the perfect dose of reality mixed with community, and Laura and company put a lot of class into it.  Tagged as the “Upside of the Downturn,” it makes for good reading and solid camaraderie.

Check out my interview with Laura, tonight on Blog Talk Radio.  We’ll be chatting at 8pm CST about what led her and her team to build RecessionWire (besides the recession) and how hope can be dispensed in all aspects of life.

We’ll also be accepting live callers later on in the show, so be sure to tune in and give your take on the Recession and how it has affected your life – both positively and negatively.  And don’t forget to follow @RecessionWire on Twitter!

As a shrink who is trading in her "dream house" for a 340 sq ft RV, I wrote an article on the Upside of Downsizing on my website.
