I believe that it is important to know – up front – a little about the person who is writing articles, books or blog posts that I am going to take my time to read. Let me state right up front that I am not a teacher. I am currently a computer programmer by trade, but have a degree in Finance and worked as an accountant, in a small finance company and even as a rent collector for roughly 10 years. That should take care of the personal finance side of this site.
Now on to the teaching qualifications. Keep reading, you are going to love this. I am actually the black sheep of my family because I am not a teacher. I have been around and lived with at least one teacher for all of my life. Here is the lineage of teaching in my family – ready? My Grandmother and Grandfather were both educators (she college professor, he a school superintendent), both of my parents were teachers, my brother is a teacher, my wife is a teacher and to top it off, my daughter is in school studying to be a teacher. And because my wife is a teacher, we have many teacher friends. That covers the teacher part.I know first hand that teaching is a very underpaid, under appreciated and stressful profession. I also know that teachers sometimes have some interesting parts to their finances (getting paid monthly in some places, having the whole Summer off and buying supplies for your classroom). I believe that there should be a mandatory class for every prospective teacher in college called “Living the Teacher Life”. I have seen many instances of good hard-working teachers have to work a second jobs, get loans from friends and family, have to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at the end of the month and even in the worse situations file for bankruptcy. Teaching is stressful enough – with this site I hope to help with some of these unique circumstances.
Enjoy the site and I help that it helps you to better enjoy the teacher lifestyle. By all means, if you have a topic that you would like to see an article on, please drop me a line and let me know. I will do my best to research it and have a post up very quickly.
