Everybody has seen a rent-versus-buy analysis. On one side you add up the mortgage, taxes, insurance, and maintenance costs (being sure to adjust for the tax write-off of the mortgage interest). On the other side you add up, well, just the rent, really. Then, at the end of 30 years the homeowner has a house and the renter has... nothing. Here's a different way to look at it.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I need to stop buying Chinese goods. This is a tough one for me, mostly because so much of the cheap stuff I love to buy comes from China, and I really like China and would like to see the country succeed. However, one headline after another is screaming to me that I need to seriously consider the source of what I am buying before I buy it. You too should consider keeping an eye out for the following:

Resisting the impulse beauty buy

Are you an impulse beauty shopper? Do you find yourself buying stuff in a desperate attempt to look and feel better, only to find yourself crushed under the weight of your credit card bills?

It doesn't have to be that way.

It's been said that luck favors the prepared. What that essentially means is, the prepared are merely better equipped to deal with life. And being prepared is the ultimate weapon in the battle against the impusle buy, especially those purchases pertaining to personal appearance.

Here are two problems and two solutions that I have come up with to help me save money and save my sanity when it comes to beauty.

Sell handmade goods, buy cheap handmade goodies.

In these days of mass-production and Wal-Mart's low prices and lower standards, it's great to see handmade artifacts making a comeback. Today, my wife introduced me to a site that is a meeting-place for buying and selling wonderful handmade items. Everything from jewelry and ties to paintings and teddy bears. And it's all 100% hand crafted.
