rotary dial phone

I had been thinking about shedding my landline for a while. I was attached to the convenience for a long time and, more recently, unlimited calls for one price in the United States. What I wanted most from a landline, though, was reliability; but, for me, neither the cable company nor the traditional bell company could deliver. So, after more than four decades, I cut the cord. Here’s how I’m getting along without a regular phone.

I got another one of those emails recently, from my mother-in-law this time. As usual, I began reading with skepticism and was ready to take it all with another monstrous grain of salt. But as I continued reading, I realized the information actually seemed plausible. So I checked it out at Snopes and found truth behind the stories.

iPhone 3G

In certain parts of the world (Russia comes to mind), people have stood in line for hours just to get some food. It’s messed up, but I get it. If standing in line for hours will result in putting a meal on the table for your hungry family, I’m right there. But why are people spending hours in line for a cell phone?!

If you lose or drown your cellular phone before you're eligible for an upgrade, don't buy a new one. Ask around and you're sure to find someone with an unused handset that's been sitting around since their last upgrade. AT&T will replace a SIM card for free. Not only is it frugal, it's earth-friendlier than buying a new phone.

Cell suck

For the last 7-8 years, I have been a loyal Virgin Mobile customer. I liked the prepaid pricing plan, the customer service, I didn’t want a large monthly bill or overage charges. Everything was perfect. Well, almost everything.

Cell's work

Anyone with a cell phone has suffered from those “no signal” or “service lost” moments. And they usually happen when your car has broken down or someone’s chasing you through the forest with a large axe. My cell phone is my only phone, which saves me quite a bit of money every month. Telemarketers don't have the number. Which is good, because I hate wasting airtime telling telemarketers what they can do to themselves. Looks like I had better brush up on my insults. According to the Seattle Times, a locally-owned company named Intelius is putting together a cell phone directory. It costs $15 to search for an individual's cell phone number. That's right - for $15, your cell number can be given out to anyone.

Cell Phone

"It seems like a great deal, but maybe it's cheaper somewhere else?" I've said those words a lot, maybe not out loud but certainly in my head. The thing I love about shopping online is that I can instantly see if something is cheaper at another store. But, when you're out and about, how do you do the same thing? How do you keep your advantage? Well, if you take your cell phone with you, FruCall may just be the answer.
