I pay almost no attention to "deals" sites. I scarcely even read the lists of deals here on Wise Bread. There are several reasons, but they pretty much come down to two things: I don't have the time, or the money, to pay attention to deals.

Bing is the new search engine from Microsoft, and right now they are sponsoring a promotion called "Double Saving Days" that is giving shoppers cashback of up to 50% until the end of August, 2009. The Bing cashback program is completely replacing the old Live Search cashback program and this is how it works.

It doesn't take long after making the switch from shopaholic to savvy spender to realize there is WAY more to it than that. How much do you buy at one time? How do you balance tying up your liquid cash on the front end to snag a deal with maintaining your monthly savings goals? How much is too much? Where will you store everything? How do you track your rebates and organize your coupons? Arrrggghh!!!!! Don't worry. We've got your back.

Today I stumbled upon a site called Swoopo. It is touted as a new auction site that combines shopping with entertainment. I took a quick look and it seemed like many items were selling for very low prices. For example, an ounce of gold recently sold for only $187.96 when it is worth around $1000. How is this possible?

Finding deals is a key topic on Wise Bread, and for good reason--finding a great price may make something you want affordable and make it easier to stretch your resources to cover your needs. There's a lot here about the tactics of finding good prices--knowing where to look, knowing how to negotiate, being willing to wait, and so on. This post, though, is about four other tactics for frugality--tactics that, for me, make a much bigger difference than finding deals.
