Longtime Mac Users Punished for Loyalty

Posted February 18, 2008 - 06:53 by Catherine Shaffer

Personal Finance, Shopping, Technology

I've watched other Mac lovers fall away from the True Faith, one-by-one, but I never thought it would happen to me. However, yesterday when we brought home the newest addition to our Mac family, an 80 Gb iPod Classic, it would be my turn to be disillusioned. After you pay the hefty $249 price tag, plus an extra $30 for a wall charger (they used to bundle those in for free), plus $55 for the composite AV cable for your TV, plus any other little extras you may need, there is a hidden cost that blows up in your face when you get it home.

Best Buy TV Offer

It's Friday, it's time for another deal. I must preface this by saying I'm not really a huge fan of the XBox 360, not because it's a bad console but I'm no fan of the reliability right now. However, if you are in the market for a HDTV & gaming system, Best Buy is giving you a stellar deal. You'll save over $400, which is like getting the XBox 360 for free.

It's one thing to build a PC. Pah, everyone's doing that. But imagine the look on your friends' faces when you show them a computer in an aquarium filled with mineral oil. I'm still taken back by it, and I've seen the video...twice.

This all came from a post I did recently on case mods . I found the article but just couldn't bear to let this one sit in with the other modfications. It's just way too cool.

I was sat on my computer quietly doing a little url hacking (75% off at Amazon...I'll show you how in a future post) and I came across these deals purely by chance. Two DVD players, one with a 2.5" screen, one with a 4" screen, and both over 75% off!

Coincidentally, I just checked out bargainist.com and they have the Samsung deal on their site, but for $2 cheaper! I still can't figure out how they do it. Anyway, here are the deals...

I love mail-in rebates, because I have perfected the art of receiving them. It can be a royal pain-in-the-ear, but if you are willing to do a little extra work, you too can get save a remarkable amount of money on rebates.

I came across Free After Rebate, a great site that posts deals in which you get stuff for free, after rebates (hence the name, see?). Now, rebates can be tricky, but I have faith that we can all fight the Man and wrench our hard-earned money back from those big, faceless corporations.
