Music fans of the world, unite. The very cool Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails (or who basically IS Nine Inch Nails), is letting fans download the entire new album The Slip free at the NIN website. This is one further slap in the face to the RIAA, and a move that will no doubt shake up the archaic music industry even further.

I'm scratching my head on this one folks. It may be a little premature to say I've found the "deal of the year" on January 1st, but I can't see anyone topping this for a while. It's possible it's a typo, or a glitch, or incredible good will on the part of See's, but they're currently offering a massive 4lb box of holiday chocolates for the paltry sum of $1...and it's FREE 3-day select shipping, too!

I flew to New York for business over the weekend. As I looked at the list of $8 pay-per-view movies and $5 snacks available, my mind went back in time to a few years ago, when free beers flowed, meals were complimentary and in-flight movies were standard. Then I looked around at other free services that have gone bye-bye, including free air for your tires, free doggie bones at the butchers, extra cheese on pizzas, school supplies, national parks and the good old 411 operator assistance, and I wondered…what else will soon cost you?

I recently found an amazing (and I don't use that word lightly) resource from Google that I think is completely under-used and seriously under-marketed. This resource is called Google Talks and it contains over 170 fascinating lectures, given to the very lucky and privileged Google staff, most around 1 hour long.

Recently a very good friend of mine told me about a mishap that involved his 8 year old son, a Wii remote and a large, expensive flat-screen LCD TV. Needless to say he wasn't happy. And it turns out he's not alone. Several people have reported problems with the Wii remotes, and as my wife recently got one I've also been a little concerned. Fortunately Nintendo is a great company. They have invented a rubber non-slip jacket for Wii remotes, and they're giving them away free to current owners of Wii systems.

A quick 'deal of the day' for you, and it's a great one. When my wife and I were expecting out first child we read "What To Expect When You're Expecting" from cover to cover. When the baby arrived, we quickly turned to this book. It's wonderful, it's well written and you can get it absolutely FREE.

It's not too often you can get a great deal and help mother nature at the same time. The National Arbor Day Foundation is giving away 10 free trees per household, including free shipping, when you become a member. Admittedly membership is not free, it's $10, but that's a small price to pay for such a worthy cause. You can choose from 10 flowering trees, 10 oak trees or, in my zip code, 10 Colorado Blue Spruce.
