Shopping, Lifestyle
When it comes to shopping, touching an item may in fact encourage consumers to purchase things they hadn’t intended on buying in the first place.

I tend to believe that American consumers are savvier than advertisers and marketers give us credit for. That's why I don't understand why marketers waste so much time trying to sell us the same thing in a new box. Surely we know better than to fall for gimmicks like the insult to intelligence that I recently spotted in my local grocery store.

During my last trip to the grocery market, there was a sign in the egg case announcing that, yes, the price of eggs are rising. I’m guessing that there have been a few complaints. There are several reasons for that rise, with consumers blaming everything from the Atkins diet to ethanol — Atkins because of a higher demand for beef, eggs and other food high in protein and ethanol because of the use of corn (also used for chicken feed) in ethanol production and an upwards trend in corn prices. One key issue is actually the rapidly rising cost of transporting eggs from the chicken to your kitchen; that is to say rising gas prices mean rising food prices.

I first read of selling hair in Les Miserables when Fantine sold her head of gold to clothe her daughter Corsette. The hair trade just seems like such an archaic idea, but actually high quality hairpieces are still made from real human hair and there is a huge market for sourcing natural hair. Here are some tips and information on how to sell your tresses for cash.

A new study out today in PNAS confirms what we always suspected was true. The higher the price you pay for a product, the greater your subjective experience of pleasure in the product. For a tightwad like me, that's a no brainer. Of course people think that expensive stuff is better. Most of the time, I feel a smug satisfaction knowing that I can enjoy the same quality for a fraction of the price, or free. But here's the kicker. That pleasure experience is real, according to Caltech researchers Hilke Plassmann, John O'Doherty, Baba Shiv, and Antonio Rangel. At first I felt that this was clearly the devil's work, but as I was polishing the cobalt blue enamel on my Aga range this morning, I had a change of heart. Maybe, sometimes, pleasure is worth the price we pay for it.

I recently received a credit card invitation that clearly was put together by a computer or a chimpanzee, or a chimp with a computer. Inside, I am invited to apply for a credit card as a part of my business - my business, a little company apparently known as "Andrea Dickson Kimberly D Scott@ [redacted].com". You can sort of see the name in the picture of my simulated credit card from the offer, above.
Yes, I've never been good with naming businesses, so I decided to name my non-existent business after myself and my sister's email address.

Giving is better than receiving. I do sincerely believe this, as much as I like receiving. And I do like getting stuff.
You know that old saying about giving a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day... but teach him how to fish, and he'll end up going to cooking school and opening a swanky restaurant downtown that you won't be able to get reservations to, despite the fact that you taught him, in painstaking detail, how to tie flies when he was down and out?
