Long bio:
I am a late convert to the cult of fiscal responsibility. Perhaps too late a convert for the tastes of my retirement account. Over the past year I've made a daily practice of financial management through intention, attention and discipline. I've paid off nearly all of $20K in credit cards, put aside some savings, and increased my household income by about 25%.
In writing about personal finance, I aim to focus on simple tips and personal stories that can help shine a little light along the path. I know little about mutual funds and less about margins, but a great deal about great deals and gardens.
I've been a professional writer and journalist for most of my adult life, working for newspapers and magazines in New England. I have three children and a wonderful husband who help me keep things in perspective by blowing the budget on ice cream in the park once in awhile.
