V.I.P. Shopping and Saving at Dress Barn
Wanting to celebrate your inner fashion diva, a night out with the girls, and a great deal to boot? Now you can have all three with Dress Barn's V.I.P. shopping program. Read on for details.
While searching for deals this weekend on a few wardrobe items that needed replacing, I found myself at Dress Barn searching through the clearance racks. After finding a few potential purchases, I made my way to the fitting room, where I saw a very interesting sign asking me to speak to a sales associate about the V.I.P. shopping program offered by the store. Always on the lookout for a great deal opportunity to pass along to our readers here at Wise Bread, I did just that. Here's the deal:
- Get up to ten friends (they'll do more, but ten keeps it fun for everybody) and book a party with Dress Barn by filling out their VIP form.
- You can book your party whenever you want, but they are willing to do it after hours if you want so you can have the entire store to yourself.
- As the hostess, you get twenty-five percent off your entire purchase.
- Your guests get fifteen percent.
- Yes, these discounts apply to clearance items. (Of course I asked, was there ever any doubt?)
- A staff person (or two) will be there to help you coordinate outfits according to the season's trends.
- They provide refreshments.
I would think this would be a blast for a girls' night out at a time of year when everybody needs a few items replaced. Bonus? Some great deals are to be had. At sixty percent off on the clearance rack alone, three of the tops I bought were five bucks and change. Add another twenty-five percent savings on top of that, and we're talking thrift store prices, people. What do I say to that? Wa. Hoo.
Dress Barn also has a hosiery club where you get a punch card and a free pair of hose after every twelve of them you purchase. Not as great a deal as the V.I.P. party, but not exactly a kick in the teeth either. They also gave me something called daisy bucks after my purchase that I can apply to my next purchase between two key dates in October. You can bet I'll be applying them towards something on the clearance rack for sure.

Myscha,
What type of store is Dress Barn. What other stores do you compare the type of clothing to??
Well, as far as size of the store goes, I'd say similar to Lane Bryant. Although I seem to remember them being bigger years ago. Maybe they are different sized stores depending on their location. I'd also say it's similar to them in that it's basically all women's clothing.
Now, as far as quality, I saw a mix of things. Certainly not a lot of high end designer names, but a few things I would be comfortable mixing and matching in with an overall wardrobe, particularly those on clearance. And definitely their clearance tees will get you more quality than your basic sale tees at say, Walmart. I also found a great top that was not on sale, but is one that I could easily get some fall and holiday mileage out of from say October through New Years. So I picked it up to go with some slacks I found on clearance at Stein Mart.
In general, I don't think you'll find very many "investment piece" articles of clothing there, but you can certainly fill in with a few things affordably and get more mileage out of what you buy than items at other discount stores, in my opinion.
Myscha,
I'll appreciate some ideas on how to plan a trip abroad to visit my mother. My husband and I are new homeowner, trying to get debt free (2 credit cards). But I really need to go back and visit my mother and family. It has been 8 years since I do not see her.
Hi Liss.
Are you asking about how to plan financially, or logistically, packing lists, or something else? Just wondering what you are feeling you need in an article. How long do you want to go? Will you need to house swap or find a house sitter long term? Do you have limited or unlimited travel time available? What I mean by that is can you take your work anywhere?
Hi Myscha,
I need help on how to plan financially. I think I will be able to be out 2 weeks. I can not take my work anywhere. I do work for a non-profit organizacion, I can take 2 weeks for vacations.
Hi Liss.
It might be a bit before I can craft the entire piece, but in the meantime, here's a link that might help.
There are one or two articles I've written here on Wise Bread that might be of assistance as well. Also, start small if you need to. Begin working on developing your packing list and setting aside bits of cash to at least get your travel fund started. Proceed as if you will absolutely be able to go, and start researching at least those costs you have to absorb, such as transportation. Food and fun can always be flexible as to what you spend, but the transportation, while prone to sales and deals, is still a fixed item in the end.
How does the process work for the print models to be in the catalog. Is there a Modeling Agency involved? A print editor for the magazine? Which Agency's does Dress Barn use. I love the clothes and shop there all the time. I love the catalogs and have interest in participating as a potential model for the catalog, but not sure where to start.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
Dress Barn is just a horrible name. Dress BARN? Are they trying to appeal to well-dressed women or thrifty farm animals. I'd shop there more often but for that name.
I agree about the name, but dont let that stop you. I am always looking for suits that are a color other than navy, black, or brown without costing a thousand dollars. One of my peers always looks very stylish and she told me about DB. Its far away from my home but when I was travelling, I stopped by and was so excited to see all the color and offerings. I got a beautiful jacket and two tops for under $100 (the tops were on sale). I wish I lived closer as this store provides the options I've needed to all the black suits I own that can now be expanded upon with accessory jackets and pants. and if you really think about it - maybe the name will turn off others so that we who know the secret wont run into "ourselves" (wearing the same outfit) at meetings!
