Online travel sites such as Expedia have been around for a number of years, providing consumers with low rates in hotel stays, airfare, and vacation packages. These sites often become useful one-stop shops when selecting the best rates in travel. The Expedia®+ Card from our partner Citi provides users with opportunities to earn points on Expedia purchases that can be redeemed for future hotel stays and flights, as well as elite statuses and travel benefits not available to non-cardholders. If you occasionally find yourself online and shopping Expedia for a great travel deal, this card may be a great card for helping you boost the savings and value.

Why We Like This Card

  • 15,000 bonus points offer
  • Complimentary Expedia+ Silver status

How This Card Works

Earn three points for each dollar spent on Expedia purchases, including flights, hotels, activities, and travel packages, and one point per dollar spent on all other purchases. There is no limit to the number of points which can be earned and points do not expire as long as you earn or redeem points in some way, every 18 months.

Bonus offer: Earn 15,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 in purchases within 3 months — redeemable for $200 towards your stay at a +VIP Access hotel.

Expedia+ points can be redeemed for hotel stays, flights, and charitable donations. You can also redeem your points for dining and entertainment, however, your points are worth double if you redeem for stays at +VIP hotels, which are premium hotels in over 200 locations globally.

Other Benefits

Expedia+ Silver status. Silver status gives you an extra 10% bonus points as well as exclusive offers and access.

Citi Private Pass. This Citi feature provides special access to purchase tickets for concerts, dining, sporting events, and theatrical performances. These opportunities can include VIP packages and presale tickets that non-cardmembers do not have access to.

Concierge service. Cardholders will get 24/7 access to personalized concierge service for assistance with booking flights and hotel rooms, purchasing gifts, and making dinner reservations.

Citi Price Rewind. Your purchases made with the card can be registered with Citi. If you a lower price is found within 60 days, you can receive a refund of the difference.

Pros

Bonus offer. The bonus offered to new cardholders is slightly higher than the standard sign-up bonuses offered with other no annual fee rewards cards. (See also: Best Sign Up Bonus Offers)

Complimentary Expedia+ Silver status. The Expedia+ program includes opportunities to earn elite statuses of Blue, Silver, or Gold, that can be useful for additional perks and benefits when traveling. Each year of card membership, you automatically earn Silver status, which provides additional benefits such as a 10% bonus points accelerator on bookings, 250 bonus points for +VIP Access hotel bookings, and exclusive travel offers.

Reach Gold status faster. You also earn one Elite Qualifying Hotel Night toward Expedia+ Gold status for every $2,500 spent with the card in a calendar year, which helps to reach higher statuses faster. Gold status is the top tier of the elite statuses, providing perks such as a bonus points accelerator of 30%, room upgrades, and flexible check-in and check-out at +VIP Access hotels.

Cons

Limited rewards. One of greatest disadvantages of the card is its earning and redeeming limitations. If you require more flexibility when making your travel arrangements, you aren't going to benefit as much from this rewards program. (See also: Best Credit Cards for Online Booking Sites)

Foreign transaction fee. Travel rewards cards which charge foreign transaction fees can become expensive if you frequently travel abroad. The foreign transaction fee of 3%, also devalues the rewards you earn from your purchases. (See also: Best Cards with No Foreign Transaction Fees)

Who This Card Is Best For

The Expedia+ Card from Citi is best for travelers who are able to occasionally shop for airfare and hotel stays, specifically +VIP Access hotel stays where your points are worth most, on Expedia when making travel arrangements. If you frequently travel abroad or prefer flexibility in choosing hotels and airlines outside of Expedia, you should select one of the more general travel rewards credit cards available.
