For those who travel frequently and often find themselves in hotels, the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card from Chase is an ideal card for earning points on a wide range of purchases which can be redeemed for future hotel stays. InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) also offer a range of mid level and upper level types of hotels which are available globally. With over 5,000 hotels around the world, it's easy to find a hotel room no matter where you happen to travel.
The IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card also provides hotel benefits and card bonuses, which can be valuable depending on your spending. Earn five points per dollar when you stay at an IHG hotel. This includes purchases on your room bill and hotels such as Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, and EVEN Hotels. You also earn two points for each dollar spent on gasoline, groceries, and restaurants, and one point for each dollar spent on everything else.
Bonus offer: Earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.
You can redeem points for hotel stays or for merchandise, entertainment, or gift cards. Additionally, you can redeem points for frequent flyer miles with airline loyalty programs such as Delta SkyMiles or British Airways. Plus, you get an automatic 10% points rebate on redemptions. There are no limits on the number of points you can earn and your points do not expire.
Anniversary free night. For every year that you renew your card membership, you'll also receive a free night stay at an IHG property.
Platinum Elite status. As a cardmember you receive Platinum Elite status for as long as you are a Select credit cardmember, which provides you with additional hotel perks and benefits such as priority check-in, 50% bonus earnings, complimentary room upgrades, and more. Annual free night. You'll receive a complimentary hotel stay each year on your card anniversary, without any extra requirement except that you pay your annual fee. Platinum Elite Status. This is another valuable benefit that comes with the card. Of the three elite statuses offered by IHG — Club, Gold, and Platinum — this is the highest. No foreign transaction fee. Foreign transaction fees can be as much as 3%, for purchases made outside of the United States. In fact, other hotel rewards cards without foreign transaction fees, often carry higher annual fees. If you travel abroad frequently, this card can save you money on foreign purchases. Low point value outside of hotel redemption. In order to fully benefit from the rewards program, you do need to be a fan of IHG properties. You have the option of redeeming your points for merchandise, gift cards, and frequent flyer miles, however, your points are worth the most if you redeem for hotel stays. If you don't stay in IHG hotels very often, this is a less valuable rewards program and you should instead choose a general travel rewards card that offers more options for travel redemption.
